Medical Mall:
Is a facility offering comprehensive ambulatory
medical services (as primary and secondary care,
diagnostic procedures, outpatient surgery, and
rehabilitation)medical malls offering most services
found in a hospital except the overnight beds
Before malls:
• The Arabs in the past, like other peoples, had a lot of commodities that
they wanted to sell or buy, so they were only present in large areas to
buy and sell commodities. These spaces are the markets, which we
now call the shopping center. The various parts of the Arabian
Peninsula were home to many poets who came to present their poetry
to the people, in addition to the merchants who went to it to display
their goods there and to earn money from it. Below we mention the
most famous ancient Arab markets
Okaz mart:
• The Okaz mart is the most famous of the three markets
that were among the Arabs in the pre-Islamic era. The
word Okaz means competing with the opponent and
bragging about him in reciting and singing poetry. Lots
of different commodities were sold in the Okaz market,
such as: ghee, dates, honey, wine, and camels. And poets
recited their poems in it in order to attract the attention
of the great poets, as the Okaz market was receiving the
attention of many princes of the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia, as it was considered a literary, historical and
cultural landmark, where many artists, poets, writers and
intellectuals interested in the fields of literature and
culture met where people used to start delegations from
the first month of Dhul-Hijjah until the twentieth of the
same month.
Magna mart
• It is a valley that passes through the bottom of
Makkah Al-Mukarramah. Its name came from
madness, jinn, or paradise. It is a grove distinguished
by its beauty and abundant water. Today it is known
as the Valley of Fatima.
The majaz mart
• It was known by this name because the pilgrims
leave from it to Mount Arafat, which is three miles
away in the district of Mount Kabkab, and this
market was held in the homes of Hudhayl, who were
considered to be its people.
The word 'mall' comes from a 16th-
century Italian alley game that
resembled croquet. It was called
pallamaglio, or pall-mall in English;
the alley on which the game was
played came to be known as a 'mall'.
History of malls
• The history of shopping centers as in architecture
began 60 years ago to develop and reach what it has
reached, and for malls to be prominent landmarks in
some countries, and an important tourist attraction.
Mall “Southdale Center
in Minnesota”
• The Southdale Center Mall in Minnesota, USA, is the
first building of its kind in the world, built in 1965,
designed by architect Victor Goren, and its aim was
to create shopping centers that provide buyers with a
social climate on the outskirts of cities.
