UNIVERSITY
ARTIST COLLECTIVE

Bo McDowell
W H AT

• A campus organization or group of originations that interconnects the many creative

departments throughout campus.

• This group would link students from art, music, broadcast, design, and more
departments.

• Student representatives from each branch would help keep the departments connected
and guide students between them as necessary.
WHY

Many projects in media require different aspects from

different fields of art and creation. This organization
would help group people in need of other departments’
expertise with collaborators from those departments.
EXAMPLES

• A student wants to make a music video for their band but knows nothing about recording
technology. The organization would help to connect them with a broadcast/production student
who could help.

• A student needs advertisements for an activity they are involved in. The organization would
help to connect them with a graphic design student who could help.

• A broadcast student needs music for a video project they are working on. The organization
would help to connect them with a music student who could help.
SPIRAL OF SILENCE
The Spiral of Silence theory states that people
tend to stay silent when their views do not
align with the majority’s.

While this originates due to the persecution of

some based on their beliefs and opinions, it
works as the basis for the basic societal
principle of “the more people know about
something, the more that they talk about it.
The more that people talk about something,
the more people know about it.”
HOW IT APPLIES

The intent of this organization is the raise awareness for the

many creative departments on campus. Many people do not
take full advantage of these due to them not know of their
existence of accessibility. This can be applied to basis of the
Spiral of Silence theory, because the more people that know
about these groups, the more people will use them.
WHO IS IT FOR?

• Students looking to collaborate on projects, whether it be assignments, for their portfolio, or

personal interest.

• Incoming students looking to get an overview of the many creative departments PSU has.

• Local individuals or companies looking to collaborate on projects or support campus activities.

THE EVENT

The whole event to bring awareness to this organization, a “bash” if you

will, would consist of various presentations and activities from the
multiple creative departments around campus. This event would display
student’s work and projects from the music, art, design, production
departments, and more, showing PSU student’s creativity and skill in
their artistic fields.
WHEN AND WHERE

The event would take place indoors and outdoors around the oval and the surrounding
buildings to utilize the space of all the departments we have.

It would take place in mid-to-late spring semester. This would allow for outdoor
activities in warm temperatures, as well as the sun not setting too early. This is also a
more relaxed time for students, not having as much stress from beginning or ending the
semester. It would also ensure students are here on campus whereas a summer activity
would not.
S TA G E

A main attraction would be a stage set up in the oval. This would feature performances good
enough to be approved by the heads of the organization:

• An opening and closing speech/ceremony to kick off and wrap up the event.

• Performances by local, student, and university bands and music groups.

• TED Talk style presentations by students, staff, or local professionals.

• Possible improv or standup routines.

• Possible additional activities

Stage rental would cost approximately $900 of the budget.

INDOORS

Other indoor presentations and attractions would also be included amid the activities around the
oval. These would include:

• Art galleries and displays in Porter Hall

• Short film and broadcast project presentations in the Student Center, Grubbs, and/or Whitesitt
Hall

• Tours of McCray, Whitesitt, Grubbs, Porter, etc. Hall departments and utilities.

• Possible additional activities

ADVERTISING
The widespread use of social media allows for
a lot of free advertising and spreading of
information across multiple social media sites,
being seen by hundreds or thousands of
people.

On top of this 500 flyers/posters can

additionally be printed for approximately $350
BUDGET

• $900 Outdoor stage rental

• $350 flyers

Remaining $750 can be used on optional food/snacks set out, or to pay speakers or performers.
T H E T A K E AW A Y

The primary goal of this organization and event for it, is to spread
awareness of the different creative groups on campus, and to help create a
network around them. This would help to connect the different
departments to each other, help students make relationships and network,
and spread awareness to the community of the work and projects of
campus students for possible projects in the future.
