1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. BACKGROUND:
The Kirani bridge was proposed by Government of Baluchistan (Communication and Works
department) and designed by CAMEOS Consultants Engineers, Architects and Planners in
2011. First it was constructed in 2011 and the length of the bridge was 40m initially. It was
redesigned in 2014 and the length was extended to 80m.

1.2. PARAMETERS:
• Length of the bridge: 80 m.
• Span 4@20.
• Roadway width: 7.320 m.
1.3. MATERIALS:

The following materials are used for bridge construction.

CONCRETE Piles, pier shaft, Deck Slab & Diaphragms

Class A3 (27.50 N/mm²) (4000psi)

Approach Slab and Barrier

Class Al (20.60 N/mm ²) (3000psi)

Transom
Class A2 (24.0 N/mm ²) (3500psi)

Precast Prestressed Concrete Girders

Class D2 (41.70 N/mm ²) (6000psi)

STEEL REINFORCEMENT Grade 40 & 60 AASHTO M31

PRE-STRESSING STEEL GRADE 270

2. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
To perform the structure analysis of Kirani bridge using CSI Bridge software under the ASSHTO LRFD-12
load combinations.
3. OBJECTIVE:
To perform the structure analysis of Kirani bridge using CSI Bridge software under the
ASSHTO LRFD-12 load combinations.
4. METHODOLOGY:
4.1. SOFTWARE: Modern engineering software give enormous variety of software’s for the analysis of the
bridges. Here are the most popular versions of such types of software: Midas Civil software, SAP2000,
STAAD Pro, CSI Bridge, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design, RISA, LARSA 4D Bridge Series and CSI
Bridge. Here CSI Bridge Software is used for modeling and analysis of the bridge.

4.2. METHOD:
The CSI Bridge software use finite element method for analysis. The finite element method (FEM) is a general
tool for solving differential equations suitable for structural engineering applications. FEM is capable of
handling large structural mechanics problems by discretizing the problem into a finite number of elements,
which in turn is governed by equations.
4.3. LOAD COMBINATIONS:
The load combinations used in Midas Civil are as per AASHTO LRFD-16 given below:
