SPECIALIZATION
OF COUNSELORS
1. VOCATIONAL COUNSELORS OR
CAREER COUNSELORS
They will help you if you are unsatisfied with your
career choice, but are afraid to make changes or
experience financial constraints.
Career counselors typically have a background in
vocational, industrial or organizational
psychology.
2. School Counseling
Elementary, Highschool, and Tertiary counselors
emphasize more on preventive and
developmental counseling. They provide students
with the life skills needed to deal with the
problems before they worsen.
3. COMMUNITY
COUNSELING
It adepts in community’s background, culture or
practices, and helps the members of the
community improve their relationship with each
other.
4. Marriage and Family
Counseling
A marriage counselor is an unbiased third party
who can help couple resolve marital problems.
5. Mental Health or Clinical
Counseling
it addresses and treats mental and emotional
disorders and promote mental health. It often
works with mental health specialists: psychiatrist.
Psychologist, or school counselors.
6. REHABILITATION
COUNSELING
it helps substance abuse/persons with disabilities
in achieving their psychological, personal, social, and
vocational goals. Rehabilitation program may range
from week to years.
7. INDUSTRIAL
COUNSELING
it is a human resource-counseling to respond to
the concern of the employee. It gives training or
professional development services or other
activities to help employees develop soft skills,
attitude, flexibility and motivation.
8. PRIVATE PRACTICE
Counselors may have their own wellness center or
private clinic. The clinic can accommodate children
and/or adults, depending on the counselor’s
specialization.
