SERVICE
WHAT IS INDIVIDUAL INVENTORY SERVICE?

This service aims to gathered information


about the students to better understanding
them.
 The Guidance Office keeps an organized &
systematic record of each student. All
personal information is kept confidential.
REASONS OF GATHERING THE DATA

 The individual or student’s information is needed to assist


the student to know the clear picture of his abilities,
interests, aptitudes, skills, personality characteristics,
achievement standard, level of aspiration and his physical
health status as well as his mental capacities.
 It assists student to know himself from various point of
view such as socio-economic-status, family background,
educational status of family, will of parents and students
etc.
REASONS OF GATHERING THE DATA

 It helps student to provide a record of the


academic standard and status and his progress
in this regard.
 It enables guidance worker, and teacher to
know about student adequately as a result of
which they would be able to suggest for further
progress of the students.

WAYS IN COLLECTING DATA

1. Observation
 Oral and visual way of measuring what a person says and what a
person does.
 Behavior is studied through observation by a trained observer. The
effectiveness of the technique depends upon the skillfulness of
the observer.
Some aspects that can be observed
study habits, leadership qualities, desire to get attention, paying attention, acts of
dishonesty, speech difficulties, ways f asking questions/answering questions.

2. Autobiographical sketches
Autobiography- an individual life story.
 It is means of securing information about an
individual, which is an effective source of counseling
process.
 an autobiography is a description of an individual in
his own words.

3. Anecdotal records

 Short description of a significant event/incident of a person’s


overt behavior.
 An anecdotal record contains short descriptive accounts about
some events regarding a student.
 Provide descriptions of the person’s spontaneous behavior in
various situations.
TYPES OF ANECDOTAL RECORDS

 First type: it contains only the objective account of a students


behavior.
 Second type: Brief comments along with the object’s
behavior account are noted down.
 Third type: Problems related to his/her behavior are noted
down.
 fourth type: students behavior along with his good and bad
qualities and suggestion for improvement are mentioned.

4. Case Study

 AN intensive investigation employing all types of research,


making use of tests, checklist, interviews and observation.
 The use of techniques as obtaining facts, diagnosis, or treatment.
 A comprehensive collection of all available information.
 The most important technique and best method of studying the
whole individual.
STEPS IN PREPARING CASE STUDY

1. Recognition of the status of what is to be investigated.


2. Collection of data relating to the factors associated
with the problem under study.
3. Diagnosis- identification of casual factors.
4. Application of remedial measures.
5. Fallow-up techniques. It is necessary to check the
correctness of the diagnosis and to modify the
treatment to suit the case.

5. Cumulative records

 It is a record information concerned with the appraisal of an


individual student.
 A method of recording, filing and using information essential
for the guidance of students.
 It is helpful in current and future guide in charting the progress
of a special needs of a child.

6. Interview

 A conversation with a purpose.


 It is a dynamic face-to-face relationship.
 It is an opportunity for clarifications.
 An essential techniques in counseling process.
KIND OF INTERVIEW

1. Structured Interview
 It follows a predetermined plan of questioning which
make use a list of questions/checklist of general
topics as a guide.
2. Unstructured Interview
 The interviewer is free to develop the conversation
along the lines that seem most suitable for him.
STEPS FOR INTERVIEW

1. Prepare for the interview.


2. Establish Rapportt.
3. Develop insight.
4. Terminate the interview.
5. Keep records of the interview.
6. Evaluate the interview.

7. Standardized test

 These tools are used to measure interest, intelligence,


aptitudes and personality traits.
 It can be done through groups or individual.
 It provide a reliable and valid information.
 It can be reusable, less time consuming and can be scored
easily.

8. Rating Scale

 The behavior of the child may be known by means of assigning


degrees of responses with corresponding scales or values.
 The presence or absence of a particular type of behavior or trait
in a person is rated in terms of quantity or quality.
 It is defined as a selected list of “word, phrases, sentences,
paragraphs, following which an observer records a value or rating
based on some objective scale of values.

ORIENTATION SERVICE
ORIENTATION SERVICE

 It is provided to the students that are new comers


and those who go to new class or new course in
the school set up.
 This is meant to enable them to know school
courses, rules, regulations and different facilities
given to the students by school and to know the
clear image of the school.
PURPOSE

 It assists new students to know the information’s


about school, its history and traditions, its rules and
regulations, its strength and weaknesses, facilities
available for them etc.
 It helps students to adjust with school situations and
enables students to develop academic standard,
personal qualities, high moral values as well as
ethical standards from rich experiences of the school.
PURPOSE

 It assist students to achieve success in academic life


by learning to study carefully, developing interest in
study, taking examinations and notes sincerely and
utilizing time properly.
 It helps students to know the most all useful
information’s regarding physical plant, library, hostels,
class-rooms, laboratories, workshops, gardens, play
grounds, different teaching aids and other facilities.
PURPOSE

 It assist students to provide remedial reading,


language programmed, projects and clubs and
different financial help by schools.
 It assists students to develop social adjustment
abilities, citizenship education, well adjustment in
different school activities and facilities, with
different member of school and finally it assists to
develop an idea and feeling among students that is a
self directed, intellectually oriented experience.
PURPOSE

 To let student know and understand their rights,


privileges and responsibility in the school.
HOW TO IMPLEMENT THE ORIENTATION
SERVICE
 Organize talks for fresh students on health, academic
etc
 Disseminating information to students using notice
boards
 Providing reading materials for students.
 Making students visit the library, classrooms or lecture
theatres and other important places to acquaint
themselves with the facilities available.
