• May 7, 1840 - November 6, 1893 (53 y/o)
• Born in Votskinsk, Russia
• He was fluent in French and German at the age of 6
• He was sensitive and showed interest in music from his early
childhood
• He studied law and became a law clerk in St. Petersburg in his
20's
• He then rebelled and began to study music at a conservatory in
St. Petersburg
• He was a big fan of Mozart. So, he studied composition with
Anton Rubinstein and mover to Moscow to teach at the new
conservatory

• He was known for his ballet music
• He continued his music career in New york
• Despite him being a homosexual, he still got married. But then, he had marital
problem and attempted to end his life.
• The musical poems "Fatum" and "Romeo and Juliet" are his works that made him
famous.
• He composed some haunting melodies and usrd a great deal of folk music in his
symphonic works
• Unfortunately, only few of his manuscripts survived

A not so fun fact:


The Pathètique symphony premiered four days before his death from Cholera.

SWAN LAKE (1876)


Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, a Russian composer, created the ballet Swan
Lake, Op. 20, in the years 1875–1876. Despite its initial failure, it has
since become one of the most well-known ballets ever.

THE NUTCRACKER (1892)


The Nutcracker is a two-act "fairy ballet" set on Christmas Eve at the
foot of a Christmas tree in a child's imagination. The music is by Pyotr
Ilyich Tchaikovsky, his Opus 71, and the ballet is an adaptation of E. T.
A. Hoffmann's 1816 short story.

• Born in Doborjan, Hungary
• The best word that describes his works is "virtuosity".
• He was known as the virtuoso pianist, a composer and
the busiest musician during Romantic era.
• He played and studied in Vienna and Paris while
performing in concerts in the rest of Europe.
• His father was his first teacher at age six (6).
• He was known for his symphonic poems where he
translated great literary works into musicial
compositions.

MOST FAMOUS COMPOSITIONS:

LA CAMPANELLA (1851)
Liszt's short piano piece ‘La Campanella’ takes a melody from
Paganini's Second Violin Concerto. And with that sort of ancestry, it's
no surprise this is one of the most difficult piano pieces ever written.

LIEBESTRÄUME (1850)
Liebesträume is a set of three solo piano works by Franz Liszt,
published in 1850. Originally the three Liebesträume were conceived
as lieder after poems by Ludwig Uhland and Ferdinand Freiligrath.
