Pens for sow with piglets

- A well-designed pen improves the health and
performance of the animals

Points to consider:
- Protection of piglets against crushing this would
include the installation of guard rails hurdles in the
farrowing pen.
A good view of the sow and piglets

- The provision of the door and the pen having a low

partition.
- Animals should be easily visible even at a distance.
- Height of partition is very important in between sows 1
meter, piglets 0.60 meters.
Accessibility of Piglets
Piglets should be easily be caught or reached for treatment
purposes. Also, there should be no hindrance so that the piglets
will be able to suck the milk
Removal of drug and urine
Proper slope would aid on this problem. A 2% - 3% cm/meter run
would eliminate problems too step a slope causes splaylegs and
