QUICK REVIEW

1. What are the three tenses of verb?

2. How do we write verbs in present, past, and future

form?

3. How do we identify that a verb is in specific tense?

4
Adverbs
Let’s start with the first set of slides
An adverb is a word that that modifies a verb, an adjective,
or another adverb. It usually answers the questions of when,
how, where, and how often.
Examples:
Peter recites the poem loudly. (loudly modifies the verb
recite)
A very high wall surrounds the building. (very modifies that
adjective high)
They came only recently. (only modifies the adverb
recently)

6
There are different kinds of adverbs. Study the following:

Adverbs of manner - It tells or describes how something
happens. They are usually found after the main verb or after the
object.
Examples:
Nica piles her books neatly.
Carmelo and Carlito jump excitedly.
Harry faces his bullies bravely.

7
Some adverbs are placed before the main verb to give emphasis
to the verb.

Examples:
Karina easily shoots the ball into the ring.
Kian gently pats the stray dog sitting outside the school gate.
Ron dramatically sighs at Hermione for reminding them of
their homework in Herbology.

8
Adverbs of time - It tells when an action is done.

Examples:
Percy will meet Chiron later.
Grandma will visit her birthplace after 65 years.
Leo tells Frank that he will meet him at the library at break
time.

9
Adverbs of place - It tells where an action is done.

Examples:
That shop is across this building.
The villain jumped over the wall.
The firemen asked the residents to step away from the truck.

10
Adverb of frequency – It answers the question how often an
action is done.

Examples:
Sometimes I think being the youngest child is better than being
the eldest.
I always pray to God to thank Him and to ask for forgiveness.

11
Adverbs of degree – answers the question how much or how
little.

Examples:
I am extremely tried today.
She almost got the first place if not only for that mistake.
