Evaluating
Functions
1.evaluate function;
2.solve problems involving
function;
3.develop cooperation during
discussion and group activity.
Evaluating a function

means replacing the variable in the function, in this

case x, with a value from the function’s domain and
computing for the result. To denote that we
are evaluating f at x for some x in the domain of f ,
we write f (x).
Example
1.) f(x)=2x+1 ; if x=1.5
f(1.5) = 2(1.5)+1
f(1.5) = 3 + 1
f(1.5) = 4
Example
2.) f(x)= ; if x=7

f(7)=

f(7)=

f(7)= = 2.5
Example
3.) f(x)= ; if x=2

f(2)=

f(2)=

f(2)= = 0.25
Seatwork:

f(x)=
find the following values:
1.) f(3)
2.) f(6)
f(x) =

f(3) =
f(3) = 2(9)
f(3) = 18
f(3) = 10
f(x) =

f(6) =
f(6) = 2(36)
f(6) = 72
f(6) = 55
GROUP ACTIVITY:

1. Analyze and solve the given word problem
by evaluating the function.
2. Write your answer on the strip of manila
paper provided for your group.
3.The first group to paste and got the highest
score will be the winner will
receive an additional 10 points
for participation.
Problem:
Your group decided to sell snacks in the
nearby school. In one day, your group spends Php. 200
for rent and Php 25 for each snack item you prepare.
Your expenses in a single day can be expressed as the
function C (x)=25x+200, where x is the
number of snacks and C (x) is your daily
expenses in pesos. How much is your expenses if the
group prepare 100 snacks? 150 snacks?

ASSIGNMENT
Solve the given word
problem.

The Math club goes to an amusement park. Student

tickets cost $10 each. Teachers go for free. The bus
costs $28. This is expressed as f(x)= 10x +28. How
much is the cost of 12 students going in the
amusement park?
