BANGALORE

BANGALORE IS ONE OF THE FASTEST GROWING CITY IN INDIA. IT

IS ALSO THE TECHNOLOGICAL CAPITAL OF INDIA. HENCE, IT
ATTRACTS PEOPLE FROM VARIOUS PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. THIS
HAS CAUSED MANY PROBLEMS.

1.Population explosion:
Bangalore has a huge population of 8.42 million, which has a large difference
when compared to other major cities of Karnataka (i.e. Mysore, Hubli , etc).
This is due to the immigration of people from various parts of the state as well
as the country. Now the question arises, why does the people migrate?? To
answer this question, let's go back to 1990’s, when India suffered severe
economic crisis.
THIS WAS SOLVED BY THE POLICY OF LIBERALISATION OF INDIAN
ECONOMY BY EX-PM,PV NARASIMHA RAO AND DR . MANMOHAN
SINGH. THIS LED TO THE BOOM IN IT SECTOR, AND MANY MNC'S
PREFERRED BANGALORE AS THE IDEAL PLACE BECAUSE OF ITS
CLIMATE. SO, IT OPENED UP A LOT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
IN THE IT SECTOR. SO, PEOPLE FROM VARIOUS PARTS OF THE
COUNTRY CAME AND SETTLED IN BANGALORE. THIS HAS LED TO THE
POPULATION EXPLOSION PROBLEM IN BANGALORE. THIS PROBLEM
CAN BE SOLVED BY ESTABLISHING TECH PARKS IN VARIOUS OTHER
CITIES OF KARNATAKA (MYSORE, MANGALORE, SHIMOGA , HUBLI ,
ETC), THEREBY DECENTRALISATING OF POPULATION AS WELL AS
CREATING JOB OPPORTUNITIES TO THE PEOPLE FROM OTHER PARTS
OF THE STATE.

2.TRAFFIC PROBLEM:
AS THE CITY HOUSES MANY TECH PARKS LIKE MANYATHA TECH PARK,

ITPL , ELECTRONIC CITY, AND MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE WORK IN IT,

THE CITY IS FACING HUGE PROBLEM REGARDING TRAFFIC. IT'S
ESPECIALLY HIGH IN SILK BOARD, TIN FACTORY AND HEBBAL FLYOVER .
AS MANY PEOPLE COMMUTE THROUGH THE ROUTE OF IT CORRIDOR, IT
WOULD BE A BETTER SOLUTION TO CONNECT IT CORRIDORS THROUGH
METROS. IT COMPANIES SHOULD TAKE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY BY MAKING
PUBLIC TRANSPORT COMPULSORY FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES.

3.Water problem and Pollution:

Bangalore was a well planned city during its initial days, and 4 towers built by Kempegowda marked
the borders of the city. As the city grew, it crossed the borders and became messy like any other
metropolitan city of India. As the population increased, there was a huge need for accommodation of
people. To provide accommodation, many lakes were destroyed. Many buildings were built on the site
of the lakes. Many trees were cut in the name of development . Recently, the government had taken a
project of building a steel flyover, which was about to cut 50,000 trees. After a huge protest and
opposition by environmentalists and common people, the project was dropped. Many of the lakes are
maintained in a bad condition. Bellandur lake has become famous for the toxic foam , which is
affecting the health of many people in the area. Steps has to be taken to clean the lake.
4.WASTE MANAGEMENT
THE MAJOR PROBLEM OF THIS IS WASTE MANAGEMENT !
CITIZENS WHO LIVE IN BANGALORE DO NOT SEGREGATE THE
WASTES INTO DRY AND WET WASTE , THERE IS A LOT OF DREATH
OF DISPOSAL OF WASTES IN OUR CITY WHICH CAUSES HUGE
ISSUES IN DECOMPOSING AND RECYCLING. CONTINUED USAGE OF
PLASTIC CAN ALSO LEAD TO SERIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL AND
HEALTH HAZARDS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
Few decades back Bangalore was called as the Garden city ,But now it has
been called as the Garbage city ! The major problem of this is Waste
Management
5.Inadequate infrastructure.
Bangalore is not growing that much bigger anymore. It’s over-crowded, and
more and more vehicles keep pouring in. We’re currently operating beyond
our capacity, and the inflow of vehicles does not stop . There are many roads
that are poorly planned and they tend to be like bottlenecks for the traffic flow.
There are disproportionate pathways. Care of highways is maintained much
better than those of intra-city roads. More resources are spent on highways.
CITY ROADS HAVE NOT BEEN THOUGHTFULLY PLANNED. EVEN THE
CONSTRUCTION AND ADJUSTMENT OF DRAINAGE PIPES UNDER
ROADS HAPPEN VERY OFTEN AND THIS ORDEAL HAPPENS IN A VERY
DISORGANIZED MANNER. ROADS ARE DUG EVERY OTHER DAY.
PIPELINES GET LAID. THINGS NEED TO HAPPEN IN A MORE THOUGHT
THROUGH AND INTEGRATED MANNER. IT WOULD BE WISE NOT TO DO
THIS DURING RAINY SEASON, AND TO DO IT DURING SUMMER
INSTEAD. THE TRAFFIC SITUATION WORSENS CONSIDERABLY WHEN
THE ROADS ARE BEING DUG. ROADS GET BLOCKED, LIFE GETS
MISERABLE FOR ALL COMMUTERS.

6.PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
BUSES AND THE METRO CAN BE USED A LOT MORE EFFECTIVELY THAN
THEY ARE BEING USED RIGHT NOW. METRO SERVICE IS DECENT BUT ITS
NETWORK IS YET TO PENETRATE FAR REACHES OF BANGALORE. IN SHORT,
VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF STATIONS AS OF TODAY BUT CONSTRUCTION IS
ONGOING. BMTC BUSES ARE USUALLY CONSTANTLY PACKED, MAKING IT
INCONVENIENT FOR THE COMMUTERS. MORE BUSES NEED TO BE ON THE
ROADS OF BANGALORE.
