BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT

NAIL
Nail - Plate of keratin that lies on the tips of the fingers
and toes.
Keratin – Hard part of the fingernails and toenails that
contain protein.
The purpose of the nail is to protect the fingers and the
toes as well as assist with certain activities in daily life.
IMPORTANT PURPOSES OF NAILS

• They help human function – flat versions of claws


that help human dig, climb, scratch and more
• They guard against injury.
• They enhance sensation
NAIL STRUCTURE
• Lunula – pearly colored and
crescent shaped is due to the
cells being pushed closely
together, the blood capillaries
cant be seen through the lunula
because of this.
•Cuticle – transparent
skin which is called true
cuticle that is removed
during the manicuring
process.

on the nail bed up to the free
edge.
