Types of Sentences

BY: Srushti Salve

1. Imperative Sentences
An imperative sentence is a
sentence that gives the reader an
instruction, makes a request, or
issues a command.
2.Negative Sentences
A negative sentence is a sentence that
states that something is false. In
English, we create negative sentences
by adding the word 'not' after the
auxiliary, or helping, verb.
3. Interrogative Sentences
Interrogative sentences typically feature a
word order with the predicate and primary
verb before the subject. For example, in the
sentence “Who was the last speaker?” the
pronoun “who” is the interrogative pronoun
or question word, “was” is the primary
verb, and “the last speaker” is the subject.
4. Exclamatory Sentences
An exclamatory sentence, also known
as an exclamation sentence or an
exclamative clause, is a statement that
expresses strong emotion. Typically, in
English grammar, an exclamatory
sentence ends with an exclamation
mark—also called an exclamation
point.
5. Declarative Sentences
A declarative sentence is a
sentence that makes a statement—
any statement, from vitally
important information to a minor
detail.
