Rationale
• Bamboo is the fastest-growing and the most versatile plant on earth. It
have played an important part in humans daily life its uses is in
thousand different ways because of its longevity, resilience and
endurance.
• Bamboo belongs to the family of grasses, specifically in the subfamily
Bambusoideae of the family Poaceae (or graminacceae).
Approximately there-+ are 1,300 species and varietis covering 25
milion hectares worldwide (Liese, 2015)
Rationale
• Bamboo also has different parts aside from the leaves it has a the
culm or the stem that has nodes with internodes in between and this
nodes give the bamboo its strength. This culms or stems arise from
the buds at the underground which are called the shoot. Shoots of the
bamboo emerge in the rainy season and expand within a few months
and become an adult culm. (Liese, 2015)
Rationale
• This shoots from the bamboo can be used as a source of food. Locally,
in the Philippines it can be made as a viand paired with rice, the usual
cooking would be sautéing it and adding some spices and soy sauce
some also use this a filling to the famous Filipino dish “Lumpia”.
SIGNIFICANCE
• As the modern world have become more advance people’s choice of food have also
become more on the food that are fast to prepare and easy to serve like “pick a pick
a” foods have become the favorites because of its convenience such as chips and
fries, but this have also become a problem because most of this foods are
considered as one of the deadliest food according to Hindutan times (2017).
• While on the other hand some people have also become more conscious of what
they are eating and of how they look, the weight they gained. And since bamboo
shoots have weight loss properties because of its fiber content, the group have
decided to unify this idea of getting to eat the food that we generally love whilst
having no guilt of gaining weight or being healthy.
BENEFITS OF SHOOTS
• Aside from these shoots can are very delectable it is also said to be nutritious
because it is rich in fiber and according to Chongtham, Bisht,et al (2011) it has
revealed that bamboo shoots have a number of health benefits: improving appetite
and digestion, weight loss, and curing cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The
shoots are reported to have anticancer, antibacterial, and antiviral activity.
• Amylase- an enzyme, a type of protein that helps your body break down carbohydrates.
• Chlorophyll - can boost red blood cells, help with weight loss, heal damaged skin,
neutralize toxins, cut inflammation and prevent cancer.
• Vitamins B6- (pyridoxine) is important for normal brain development and for keeping
the nervous system and immune system healthy.
• Vitamin E- nutrient that's important to vision, reproduction, and the health of your
blood, brain and skin.
Theories
• Diffusion theory- this concerns with the spread of an innovation
through a population. Researchers in diffusion theory have developed
analytical models for explaining and forecasting the dynamics of
diffusion of an innovation (an idea, practice, or object perceived as
new by an individual) in a socio-technical system.
• OSD ( Open sun drying) method- is the evaporation of water from
products by sun or solar heat, assisted by movement of surrounding
air.
TREATMENTS
• THE BAMBOO SHOOTS WILL BE TREATED IN SALT
SOLUTION THOUGH BOILING, BEFORE UNDERGOING
VARIED DRYING METHOD, AND THEN IT WILL BE FRIED TO
THE SAME TEMPERATURE OF 180 DEGREES CELCIUS.
• T1 – Open Sun Dry Method
• T2 – Oven Dried
• T3 – Dehydrofreezing (removal of 70% of moisture the frozen)
