WORKPLACE HYGIENIC

PROCEDURES

 Hygienic procedures and policies are of utmost
importance in all forms of business. It affects the
viability of the business, its reputation and
general public health and safety. Workplace
hygienic procedures include personal hygiene,
environmental hygiene, and food safety.
PERSONAL GROOMING AND HYGIENE

 The most basic and effective way to avoid


infection and illness in a work environment
is good personal hygiene and proper
grooming. This means regular bathing,
wearing proper clothing, and food safety.
PERSONAL HYGIENE

 Requirementsfor staff members are often stated


and mentioned during staff orientation.
 Goodpersonal hygiene involves washing of hands
and body using clean hygiene essentials.
 Good hygiene habits help control these bacteria
and germs that cause body odor, bad breath, and
diseases.
WORKPLACE HYGIENE CHECKLIST

 Bathe daily, using soap and water


 Wash hair regularly using shampoo
 Shave regularly
 Comb hair before starting to work to get rid of loose hair strands
 Never comb hair in the work area
 Tie long hair to the back of the face
 Keep nails short and clean
 Remove nail polish and artificial nails
 Take off jewelry or accessories
GROOMING

 Hygiene is only one elements of having a pleasant appearance in the


workplace. Without proper grooming and care of the body, even the
most expensive suit will look bad. The clothing, or uniform should
look neat and clean.
 Policies on hairstyle, accessories and jewelries, facial hair for men,
and cosmetics for women should be implemented as well.
 Smell or odor is also a concern in proper grooming. Strong perfume
must be discouraged and poor personal hygiene resulting to body odor
and must be addressed to avoid uncomfortable working conditions
and environment.
PROPER CLOTHING

 Dressing properly and having a pleasant


appearance are also among the hygienic practices
required in the workplace. Appropriately clothed,
pleasant smelling and good looking staff members
affects the overall impression and environment of
a workplace.
PROPER HAND WASHING

 Hand washing is one of the basic ways to reduce the spread of bacteria that
may cause infection and illness.
 Below is the guide on how frequent and when to sanitize or wash hands.
*before, during, and after preparing food
*after touching cash
*before and after assisting or caring for someone who is sick or infected
*after using the toilet
*after coughing, or sneezing
*after touching garbage and waste materials.

PROCEDURES
 Along with personal hygiene and proper grooming, environmental hygiene is
also important in ensuring safety in the workplace. Environmental hygiene
requires sanitation which includes regular cleaning of work facilities,
sanitizing tools and equipment before and after using, putting waste
materials into proper bins, and using protection when there are risk of
catching an infection.
CLEANING AND SANITIZING

 Cleaning is the complete removal of debris and other unwanted particles


using appropriate cleaning agents or chemical under recommended
conditions. The staff member involved in cleaning must have a functional
understanding of the nature of different types of debris and the
corresponding chemical needed for its removal.
BASIC TYPES OF CLEANING AGENTS AND
FUNCTIONS
 Detergents – used to routinely wash tableware, surfaces, and equipment.
Detergents can penetrate soil quickly and soften it.
 Solvent cleaners- periodically used on surfaces where grease has burned on.
Solvent cleaners are often called degreasers.
 Acid cleaners- used on mineral deposits and other soils that detergent cannot
remove.
 Abrasive cleaners- used to remove heavy accumulation of soil that is difficult
to remove with detergents.
