What is a Drone?

• Drone stands for Dynamic Remotely Operated

Navigation Equipment
• A drone is an unmanned aircraft.
• Drones are more formally known as unmanned aerial
vehicles (UAVs) or unmanned aircraft systems.
• a drone is a flying robot that can be remotely controlled
or fly autonomously using software-controlled flight
plans in its embedded systems, that work in
conjunction with onboard sensors and a global
positioning system (GPS).

Multi-rotor
• If you’ve seen drones
small drones in your local park, they’re likely
multi-rotor models.
• These designs have several fans above their compact body.
• The multiple propellers create powerful lift and give the
pilot precise control.

 Fixed-wing drones
• As their name suggests, fixed-wing drones look more like
conventional planes, requiring a runway or a catapult to launch.
• They don’t have vertical take-off ability like quadcopters and
single-rotor drones, and this unmanned aircraft system can’t
hover.
Single-rotor helicopter drones

• Single rotor drones are strong and look similar in

structure and design to actual helicopters.
• They have one big rotor, which is like one big
spinning wing, plus a small sized rotor on the tail
for direction and stability.

Fixed-wing hybrid VTOL drones

• Hybrid VTOL Fixed-Wing UAVs combine the benefits
of multirotor platforms with fixed-wing drones and
transition between the two modes during flight.
Basic components of drone

-Frame
-Motors
-E-SC (electronic speed controller)
-Propeller
-Battery
-Flight Controller
-RC Receiver
-FPV Camera
-Video Transmitter / VTX
1. Quadcopter frame:
This is a structure (frame) in which all the other parts fit in. It acts as a skeleton in which different
components are placed in such a manner that they uniformly distribute the drone’s centre of gravity.
2. Motors:
Motors are essential for the propeller’s rotation. This enhances a thrust force for propelling the drone.
Still, the number of motors should be the same as the number of propellers
3. Electronic Speed Controller (ESC):
This is an electronic control board that varies the motor’s speed. It also acts as a dynamic brake. The
component helps the ground pilot to approximate the height at which the drone is running in. This is
attained by gauging the amount of power used by all the motors. Altitude is associated with power
drain from the power reservoirs.
4. Flight Control/Board:
The flight controller is the brain of the drone, which controls the motors and ESCs in the
drone. It is an electronics board in which sensors, processors, communication protocols, and
transmitter pins are installed
5. Propellers:
Propellers are clove like blades structured to create a difference in air pressure. When in motion, they
cut through the air creating difference in pressure between the top and bottom of the rotors
6. Radio Transmitter:
It is a channelled transmitter and a communicator to the drone. Each channel has specific frequency
capable of steering the drone in a certain motion. Drones require at least 4 channels for effective
operation.
