What is a Spreadsheet Program?

A spreadsheet program is a software application capable of
entering, calculating, manipulating, and analyzing data/sets of
numbers in tabular form.
Examples of spreadsheet programs:

Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets are the two best-
known spreadsheet applications available today. They
are pretty much the same when it comes to formulas
and calculations. This implies that many of their

• You can manually edit any part of a formula or a function,
simply by selecting its cell and making your changes in the
formula bar.
• Spreadsheet program makes it easy to move, copy or delete the
contents of the cells. You also can insert or delete rows and
column. You can add new sheets to a workbook file or delete
worksheets you no longer need.

• Numbers appear as dollars, cents, percentages, dates times
and fractions. They can be shown with or without commas,
decimal points and so forth.
• Spreadsheets offer a choice of fonts and type style,
shadowed borders and more.

to your worksheets.

• Merging and aligning our data is a vital aspect of
making our data more readable.
• Formatting our text by increasing the Size, bolding,
adding italics, or changing the fonts will improve the
overall appearance of our worksheet.

• Using styles (like table styles) can make our data stand
out and helps the reader to focus on crucial portions of
the worksheet.
• Conditional formatting is a useful tool for highlighting
crucial portions of our worksheet graphically or visibly.
These are dynamic tools. The Highlighted region changes
as our data changes.
