Rotational Symmetry

Year 7
Lesson Outcomes
• After this lesson, students will be able to,
• Understand Rotational Symmetry
• Identify Order of Rotational Symmetry
• Observe Rotational Symmetry on Grid
Rotation

A rotation turns a shape or figure about a point and through a given

angle. The point about which a figure rotates is called the centre of
rotation and is often labelled O.
Rotational Symmetry

A shape has Rotational Symmetry if it can be rotated about a point through an angle less than
360º, so that it maps onto itself.

The point through which the object rotates is called Centre of Rotational Symmetry.
