MUSIC NEWS New album explores jazz, blues and soul
▪ Radio Music Society is the fourth album by Esperanza Spalding and her fans will not be
disappointed. With energy and charm, Spalding creates a melodic journey that explores a
fusion of jazz, blues, and soul. Pop music and jazz music fans alike will be pleasantly
surprised by her original new songs as well as new musical interpretations of classics.
▪ Originally from Portland, Oregon, Spalding first taught herself to play the violin at the
age of five, but has played the double bass since she was fourteen. In 2011, she was the
first jazz musician to win the GRAMMY Award for Best New Artist. As well as
experimenting with old and new forms of musical styles, the album is a celebration of the
many types of music that have influenced her and inspired her own musical journey.
▪ “I love this album! I listened to it in the car this morning and now I can't stop playing it!”
Molly, Seattle
