What is Visual Art?
The visual arts are art forms that create works that are
primarily visual in nature, such as ceramics, drawing,
painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts,
photography, video, film making and architecture.

01 LINE
A line is an identifiable path created by
a point moving in space. It is one-
dimensional and can vary in width,
direction, and length. Lines often define
the edges of a form.
Type of Lines
• Horizontal lines
• Vertical lines
• Diagonal lines
• Straight and Curved lines
• Patterned lines
Horizontal Lines
lines suggest a feeling
of rest or repose
because objects
parallel to the earth
are at rest
Vertical lines
lines often communicate a
sense of height
Diagonal lines
convey a feeling of
movement. Objects in a
diagonal position are
unstable.
Straight and Curved
lines
sharply curved lines can
convey turmoil, chaos, and
even violence.
Patterned lines
When repeated, lines
can create a pattern. It
also give the image
rhythm.

COLOR
In works of art, artists use color to
depict and describe the subject.
Colors can be described as warm
(red, yellow) or cool (blue, gray),
depending on which end of the color
spectrum they fall.
