Introduction
In this world of mechatronics and automation, various systems have been developed just to
reduce the time and human error. The automated braking system is a part of mechatronics.
Presently the vehicle has alarm system for maintaining the safe distance between moving
vehicle.
We have brought the facility by using the same sensor system but with the automated breaking
system which restricts the backward motion of the vehicle. Our aim is to design the system
which can avoid the accident in reversing the heavy loaded vehicles like trucks, buses and all the
vehicles consisting of pneumatic braking system.
For this purpose we have developed a model which automatic braking for four wheeler when
lock the ignition switch and releasing when on the ignition switch.

. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT 3

Problem Definition
To Design & Manufacture a Ignition Enabled Handbrake System for Automobiles
In the conventional hand brakes used in automobiles require human intervention which in times
lead to failure to apply leading to accidents.
The main purpose is to bring automatic braking systems which will reduce human intervention
of engage-disengagement of braking while motionless or in parking mode.
The risk involved for the driver & passengers can minimised either reducing or eliminating
external forces and mechanisms to do same enabling safety.

. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT 4

Objectives
To reduce the effort of the driver that leads in conventional one.
To increase the comfort and safety for the driver by using modified parking brake system
named as automatic handbrake for engagement and release system.
In this modified system, we are going to control Handbrake automatically without manual
interface.

Working Principle
•Working of developed model which is Automatic braking for four wheeler when lock the ignition switch
then automatically hand brake lever in braking condition and the releasing when ON the ignition switch.

•Generally speaking, it is an object of the present invention to provide for simple and intuitive control of a
vehicle brake system. This is achievable by means of an actuating device of the general type under
consideration, which can be switched into a further switching state, and by means of an actuation
method, wherein in response to an actuation, the actuating device is switched into the further switching
state. The actuating device can be switched into the first switching state, the second switching state and
the further switching state by the same control element.

Future Scope
It can be developed to use in case of failure of main Braking System of the vehicle. That is if the
foot brake fails this system may take over to retard the vehicle to safe speed and ultimately
stopping it.
 It can be developed to operate these brakes remotely using a remote key or a smartphone
 This system can be useful in driverless cars.

Advantages of the Project
No conventional grid electricity required
Long operating life
Highly reliable and durable
Easy to operate and maintain
Safety
Parking assist as well as very fast engagement and disengagement as possible and there is no lag
in operation of the handbrake.

Disadvantages of the project
For manual override of the handbrake brake system buttons or alternative systems need to be
provided which will increase the overall cost of the system
 It is difficult to retrofit it to a current existing car model.

Applications
Our project should use for following various applications like as:

Automobiles
