WHAT IS STORYBIRD?

• Storybird is a free app designed for both teachers and students

• The application is free, although additional memberships are available. If you purchase the
membership, the app allows for more access to bonus features.
• The app is designed to be useful for language arts purposes such as reading and writing.
• It is an app that utilizes the power of illustrations to write stories. Visuals and illustrations are
much more appealing to the eye, making it much more appealing for students, especially of
young age, to want to interact with language arts.
• The Storybird platform is mainly dedicated to young kids between the age of 0-8, ages 9-12,
as well as adolescent learners ages 13-18. The app is also made for adults to use as well.
TOOLS/COMPONENTS OF STORYBIRD

• There are many video tutorials available for the students to learn from. These include
vocabulary tutorials, punctuation tutorials, and many other useful teachings.
• While math may not be the center point of the app, there are still plenty of ways that
numbers get incorporated!
• Storybird contains many different songs that can be a unique way to get younger students
involved in learning.
• There are plenty of different quizzes at the end of lessons to choose from!
HOW WILL STORYBIRD WORK IN MY
CLASSROOM?
• Storybird has many different features that make the app a fun and non-stressful way to enhance
students learning. Some ideas for how I could use the app in my classroom is by utilizing the
quizzes as forms of pre-tests for unknown subjects. Being that the app is for all ages, students can
use higher grade level learning activities as a guide for me (the teacher) to evaluate what they do
and do not know. Furthermore, the use of the quizzes will allow them to see what they need to
improve on in the future. Another way that Storybird can work to my advantage is a teacher is
through making this website a ”warm-up” or ”do-now” activity. Many students that come in the
classroom will come off as rowdy, so stimulating them with an interactive website that they
actually enjoy will hopefully create a calmer environment and be a strong way to start off the day!
