FATS
• Fats also contain C, H and O, but relatively less
O. Fats occur in both plant and animal foods.
• Fats – solid at room temperatures.
• Oils - liquid at room temperatures.
• Fats also give us energy. They also provide
insulation in humans and other mammals, and are
energy stores.
CHEMICAL NATURE OF LIPIDS

• The chemicals are the building blocks of lipids of 2


molecules called glycerol and fatty acids.
• Health benefits and harmful effects of lipids
• Lipids are essential part of our diet , too much lipid
is unhealthy, especially a type called saturated fat ,
and lipid compound called cholesterol.
PROTEINS

• Proteins contain C, H and O, and also


some nitrogen (N) and a little sulphur
(S).
• Proteins are found in milk, eggs, meat
and fish.
• Plants have less protein especially
beans, peas and nuts are rich in
proteins than others.
