Case Study 1

In a company called Agro-Product Ltd, the


following incident took place in the personnel
department.There was a superwisor who had
risen to his dpt position by way of his hard
work and sincerity. Inhis good old days,when
he wortked as a clerk in this company for 15
years before becoming a supervisor, he had
been a staunch active and dynamic unionist
 After becoming a supervisor, in response to his
responsibility, he was forced to drift away
from union activities. However, it must be
noted here, that his being promoted to a
supervisory job was noted buy off. He was
promoetd because he deserved that
recognition.The union leaders had for reasons
best known to them not liked the clerk’s
promotion to the supervisory position.
 With excellent interpersonal skills the
supervisior should some how manage to do his
work worth satisfactory.on one fine morning
while talking to the peon of the department.The
supervisior asked to do certain work.The peon
refused it and there was exchange of hearted
arguments.Alot of people gathered around,and a
certain point of time,the supervisior offensively
gesticulated towards the peon.
 The basic issue remained aside and everyone
around started accusing the supervisior for his
offensive gesticulation. the whole of the
department refused to work unless the
supervisor apologised for this behaviour and
the trade union was brought into the picture.

2. Discuss the role the personnal manager is
supposed to play in the situation?
3. If u were tha personnel manager, how would
you resolve the problem?
