Ethiopia is one of the developing countries with fast urbanization.
Many high-rise buildings are being constructed in urban areas, due to increased
population and businesses.
Formwork is one of the most important factors in determining the success of a
construction project in terms of speed, quality cost and safety of work.
Conventional formwork construction system in samara takes relatively longer
time to strip and erect.
Hence, the use of modern formworks which solves the above problems in samara
town building construction is very mandatory to have better concrete fulfilling the
requirements.
Therefore, this study recommend suitable modern formwork systems which will
alleviate the major problems of traditional formwork construction in samara town.
 Problem Statement

• Construction building projects encounter several challenges that

affect the progress of their execution one of these challenges is a
formwork system which is very time taking, exposes workers to
unsafe working conditions.
• An important factor for the on time delivery of the building project is
the selection of formwork system based on quality time and safety
issues.
 Objectives

General objective
The main objective of this thesis is to assess the application of modern
formwork systems in samara town building construction which can provide
quality, safety, and economic requirements to the construction projects in
samara town.
Specific objective

To investigate the modern formwork handling, storage and erection system used
in construction projects in Samara town.

 To identify different types of modern formwork systems.

To identify difficulties to use the modern formwork system.
 Scope and limitation of the Study
•The research focuses on the modern formwork systems for building projects in
Samara town. Formworks for cast in situ concrete are investigated. Different types
of columns, beam, slab, and special formwork systems are investigated.

•In this paper, the thesis is limited to assess only the application of modern
formwork system in samara town building construction.
 Significance of the Study

• The research is believed to initiate the local contractors in using standard formwork
systems.
• Local professionals can appreciate the modern formwork systems in this thesis and
be motivated to design and construct safe and economical formwork systems.
• The environmental effects of construction of formwork are also revealed through
this research. Regulatory body such as Ministry of Works and Urban Development
will be benefited in modifying the regulation of licensing of contractors or
introducing methods of use of formworks for buildings.
