DELL
Dell is one of the largest corporation that sells, manufacture and
supports computer products and related hardware components.
Dell has been doing well in the presence of strong competitors
HP, IBM, Toshiba, Sony and Apple. It is worth to mention the
core competencies of Dell Computer which make it strong and
competitive in the IT industry.

Dell has been using the Internet as distribution channel, it has


eliminated the dependency of dealers and retailer. Customer can
place orders on Dell Website with specification and get their PC
or laptop at their door steps. Directly taking orders from
customer reduce the cost because no distributer and retailers are
involved, reduce the cost of managing inventory by directly
ordering the hardware from suppliers based on number of
customer order placed.
CORE COMPETENCIES OF DELL

 Focus on innovation :- Most of the firms are concentrating to develop advanced


technical things in their product. Upto 2005 Dell standardized their products with the
same technology but after 2005 started to focus on innovation which sustains the growth
rate of Dell in the Global market. Dell is concentrating very much to recreate the
technology through their own Research and development setup.
 Expansion into services :- Later Dell has decided to offer business consulting which
become one of the core competency for the organization. It is the new income source for
the organization gained a name as reputed consultant. Dell’s comprehensive knowledge
in the field and track record made unique in the market and easily compete with others.
 Reinvigorate Differentiation Advantage :- Customer service is enhanced which
induces the customer to prefer Dell further, moved from direct sales to sales through
intermediaries, added suppliers, attractive marketing campaigns and enlarged turn key
solutions
• Variety of products :- Dell offers a variety of products targeting different customers is a core
competent for Dell in the areas of office desktop computer systems, office/small business
desktop and notebook systems, desktop and notebook computers shipped with Linux or
FreeDOS, business-focused notebooks, workstation systems and high-performance notebooks,
business servers, direct-attach and network-attached storage, network switches, storage area
networks and enterprise class iSCSI SANs.
• Online :- Dell is offering its product through online, customers can experience a live store like
feel at Dell website. It provides information about the products clearly with clarity also clarifies
all doubts arose in viewing it.
• Working capital :- Dell’s production efficiency minimized the production processes and
increased the productivity level. Minimized working capital helped Dell to concentrate on other
areas with adequate sources of finds.
• Reliable products at Competitive pricing :- Dell is having huge experience in the computer
products, high manufacturing quality, high distribution quality and affordable prices.

Dell transfer value of low cost to customer by selling products at low price as
compared to its competitors. Selling products at low cost by maintaining the quality
has been the core competency of Dell. After sale support, marketing, relationship
and partnership with suppliers and relationship with customers are other core
competencies of Dell.
