Solid waste management in Dhaka city

Dhaka being one of the most heavily occupied cities in the world makes the waste management of the city a daunting task. Some private firms and
NGOs are relentlessly trying to manage the waste throughout the city. But unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be enough to keep the city clean.

At this point we need to recycle all type of wastes. Because recycling or making new products from old material lowers the amount of energy. For
example- It definitely takes less energy to recycle paper than it does to cut down a tree and make brand new paper.

THE BEST PART ABOUT RECYCLING IS THAT ANYBODY CAN DO IT!

Classification of waste

1. HOUSEHOLD WASTE- It is generally classified as municipal waste. Things like household waste, construction and other wastes from streets.
This garbage is mainly generated from residential and commercial complexes.

2. INDUSTRIAL WASTE- Industrial waste is more like the hazardous waste in the environment. These wastes usually contain toxic substances.
Some household wastes can also be hazardous. They are highly toxic to humans, animals and plants. They are also corrosive, highly
inflammable, and can be explosive at times.

3. BIOMEDICAL WASTE- Biomedical waste is also known as infectious waste. They may include wastes like discarded medicines, chemical
wastes and so on. They come in the form of disposable syringes, bandages, body fluids, human excretion, etc. This kind of waste can be highly
infectious and become a serious threat to human health if not managed in a scientific and discriminate manner.
