PRESENT PERFECT CONTINIOUS


present perfect continuous describes an action or situation that started in the past (usually in the recent past)
and continues in the present.

FORMULA EXAMPLE

Positive: S + HAS/HAVE + BEEN + V ING You’ve been working.

Negtaive: S + HAS/HAVE + NOT + BEEN + V ING You haven’t been working.

Interogative: HAS/HAVE + S + BEEN + V ING Have you been working?


Active to Passive Voice
PRESENT PERFECT CONTINIOUS

FORMULA

Positive: O + Have/has + Been + Being + Verb 3 + by + S

Negative: O + Have/has + Not + Been + Being + Verb 3 + by + S

Interogative: Have/has + O + Been + Being + Verb 3 + by + O?


Examples of active to passive

ACTIVE We have been learning English since 8 a.m.


PASSIVE English has been being learnt by us since 8.am.

ACTIVE Kelsy has been waiting for her ex to text her first for 6 days.
PASSIVE Her ex has been being waited by Kelsy to text her first for 6 days.

ACTIVE Ellie and her friend have been working on a project given by their teacher
a week ago at her house.
PASSIVE A project given by their teacher a week ago has been being worked on
by Ellie and her friends at her house.

PAST FUTURE PERFECT


past future perfect refers to a time that is in the future, relative to another point in the past, but is in the past
relative to a point in its future.

FORMULA EXAMPLE

Positive: S + WOULD/ SHOULD + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE He should’ve worked hard.

Negtaive: S + WOULD/ SHOULD + NOT + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE He shouldn’t have worked hard.

Interogative: WOULD/SHOULD + S + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE? Should he have worked hard?

Positive: O + Would/Should + Have + Been + Verb 3 + By + S

Negative: O + Would/Should + Not + Have + Been + Verb 3 + By + S

Examples of active to passive

ACTIVE I would have married her if i had become an engineer three years ago.
PASSIVE She would have been married by me if i had become an engineer three
years ago.

ACTIVE She would have asked me to stay in her house if she had known that I was
here.
PASSIVE I would have been asked by her to stay in her house if she had known
that I was here.

ACTIVE We would have asked his signature if We had known that he was an
actor.
PASSIVE His signature would have been asked by us if we had known that he was
an actor.
Exercises

CHANGE THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE INTO PASSIVE !!

1. PRESENT PERFECT CONTINIOUS

ACTIVE: The programmers have been fixing Experiment 1001’s system that was
broken last month since yesterday.
ANSWER: Experiment 1001’s system that was broken last month has been
being fixed by the programmers since yesterday.
ACTIVE: The construction workers have been building the house for the past
year.
ANSWER: The house has been being built by the construction workers for
the past year.
Exercises

CHANGE THE FOLLOWING SENTENCE INTO PASSIVE !!

1. PAST FUTURE PERFECT

ACTIVE: Would Sari have finished the report if the client had called her?

ANSWER: Would the report have been finished by Sari If the client had
called her?
ACTIVE: My mother would not have bought a new phone if she had found
her old one.
ANSWER: A new phone wouldn’t have been bought by my mother if she
had found her old one.
