Polarity, Conductor and Insulator

Polarity

• refers to the direction of flow of electric charge in a

material. Materials can be classified as either having a
positive or negative polarity. The polarity of materials is
determined by the composition of the chemical elements
that make up the material.
Conductor

• is a material that has high degree of electrical

conductivity. The ability of a conductor to conduct
electricity is due to the free movement of electrons.
Insulator

• is a material that has high level of electrical resistance

which prevents the flow of electricity. Insulators are used
to protects objects from the electrical charges prevents
electrical leakage and provide safety to electrical
devices..
• The concepts of polarity, conductor and insulator have
several application in the field of electrical engineering.
Conductors are used in electrical circuits to carry
electricity from one point to another. Non-conductors or
insulators are used to prevent electrical shock. The
polarity of materials is important when designing electrical
circuits as this affect the flow of electrical current.
