insights on Egyptian

Pyramids
 The monumental tombs are relics of Egypt's Old Kingdom era and were
constructed some 4,500 years ago.
 The Pyramid of Giza estimated to be originally built by 20,000 – 40,000 workers
over the course of 20 years
 Egypt's pharaohs expected to become gods in the afterlife. To prepare for the next
world they erected temples to the gods and massive pyramid tombs for themselves
—filled with all the things each ruler would need to guide and sustain himself in
the next world.
 It's likely that communities across Egypt contributed workers, as well as food and
other essentials, for what became in some ways a national project to display the
wealth and control of the ancient pharaohs.
 Inside the pharaoh burial chamber would be filled with
treasures and walls covered with carvings and
paintings.
 Fake burial chambers and passages were made to trick
grave robbers.
 Over 2.3 million blocks of stone were used in the construction of
the Great Pyramid of Khufu. This included 5.5 million tonnes of
limestone and 8,000 tonnes of granite Each stone weighed around
25 to 80 tonnes
 The three Pyramids of Giza were once covered with a white
polished limestone casing that would reflect the sun’s rays.
However, over the years, these limestone casings have disappeared
due to earthquakes or being used to build other structures.

 It’s believed that the pyramid once had an invisible swivel door
weighing almost twenty tonnes. Interestingly, it could only be
identified and opened from the inside.
 The pharaohs were typically depicted with long braided beards but
in truth they were all more than likely clean shaven. The beards
were fakes, worn to imitate the god Osiris
