Lesson 2:

Identifying Regions
Under the Normal Curve
corresponds to different Standard
Normal Values
OBJECTIVES

At the end of the 50-minutes lesson, the students are expected to:

1. Define standard normal curve;

2. identify regions under normal curve ; and

3. find the areas between paired z-scores.

Directions: Identify the regions under the normal curve of the
following standard normal values. Sketch a normal curve, shade the
region and find the area corresponds to a given z-values.

1. z=1.25
2. z=-2.95
3. z=0.50
4. z=-2.29
5. z=1.85

Answer:

Directions: Identify the regions under the normal curve of the

following standard normal values. Sketch a normal curve, shade the
region and find the area corresponds to a given z-values.

1. z=1.25 = 0.3944
2. z=-2.95 = 0.4984
3. z=0.50 = 0.1915
4. z=-2.29 = 0.4890
5. z=1.85 = 0.4678

6

Standard normal curve is a normal probability distribution that

has a mean equal to 0 and a standard deviation equal to 1.
The table of areas under the normal curve is also known as the
z-table.
7

Example1: Find the corresponding area between z=0 and z=2.

Z=score

A= 0+0.4772
A=0.4772
8

Example2: Find the corresponding area between z=-1.23 and z=0.25.

A= 0.3907+0.0987
A=0.4894
9

Example3: Find the corresponding area between z=1.13 and z=3.06.

A= 0.4989-0.3708
A=0.1281
Identify the region and find the area between the two given z-values.

1. z=-3 and z=1

2. z=1 and z=2
3. z=-1 and z=-2.75
Directions: Identify the regions and the area under the normal
curve between the two given z-values.

1. z=1.95 and z=2.13

2. z=-2.25 and z=3
3. z=-0.50 and z=-2.85
