What is
Negritos?
Introduction
Indigenous people known as the Negritos are
said to have been the first people to settle in
Southeast Asia and some areas of the Pacific
Islands. The term "Negrito" is used to describe
their exterior look and is derived from the
Spanish word "negro," which meaning black. The
Negritos are one of the oldest human
populations in the world, In several nations
today, like the Philippines, Malaysia, and
Indonesia, the Negritos are a marginalized and
minority people. Many issues affect them,
including as discrimination, property disputes,
and limited access to healthcare and education..
They have evolved their own unique cultures and
languages as a result of their long isolation.
Where are the negritos in the Philippines?

• The Negritos are located throughout various regions


of the Philippines, particularly in the mountainous
areas of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Some of the
Negrito groups in the Philippines include the Aeta, Ati,
and Agta.

• The Aeta people are found in the mountainous areas


of Central Luzon, particularly in the provinces of
Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bataan. The Ati
people, on the other hand, are found in the island of
Panay in the Western Visayas region, particularly in
the province of Antique. The Agta people are found in
various parts of Luzon, including the provinces of
Isabela, Cagayan, Aurora, and Quezon.

What is Aeta?
An indigenous tribe known as the Aeta is thought to have been among
the Philippines' first settlers. They are a Negrito ethnic group and are
mostly located in the mountainous highlands of Central Luzon,
particularly in the provinces of Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, and
Bataan.

The Aeta are well recognized for their hunting and gathering habits and
for having a thorough understanding of the forest's resources. They
have evolved sustainable methods for collecting food, medicine, and
materials from the forest and have a profound grasp of the natural
world. The Aeta also have a strong cultural legacy, with unique music,
