COACH CARTER
Going to a school that has metal detectors and security
guards right at the front entrance may not be what we
would imagine for a high school, but that is a normal
day at Richmond High School. This high school is
located in a very poor area where no one expects
greatness from any of the students. Until one day
when a new coach takes over for the boys’ basketball
team. Coach Ken Carter is very serious about this new
job and he takes on the responsibility of this team with
only four wins on their previous season.
COACH CARTER IS BASED ON A TRUE LIFE STORY .
HE MADE THE ATHELETES SIGN A CONTRACT
OUTLINING THAT THEY WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED TO
PARTICIPATE IN THE GAMES IF THE PLAYERS
ATTEND ALL THEIR CLASSES AND PRACTICES,
MAINTAIN A AVERAGE C GRADE IN ACADEMIC ,
WEAR A TIE AND A SUIT ON GAME DAYS AND
RESPECT THEIR TEAMMATES AND COACHES.
THE BOYS HE MEETS ARE FAR WORSE THAN HE HAD
EVER IMAGINED AND THE SCHOOL IS NOT IN
SUPPORT OF THE BOYS EDUCATION AT ALL AND KEN
CARTER IS DETERMINED TO NOT ONLY HELP THEM
IN SCHOOL BUT IN LIFE.
When coach comes into conflict with the boys of meeting and
greeting them, he is showed zero respect. Instead of embracing
their new coach , they ignore his presence, insult him, and try
to get physical with him.
 TIMO CRUZ
Timo cruz is one of the shooting
guards on the basketball
team(Richmond high) . He also sells
drugs to the people for his cousin
renny. He is shown very ill
mannered and undisciplined in the
movie.
 OPEN SELF
Everyone and he himself
knew that he’s very hot
headed with the mentality that
he is untouchable
HIDDEN SELF
Timo always showed everyone that he’s
too tough and hard but deep down when
he came to know that his team is actually
winning games and having fun with the
coach he wanted to go back to the team.
BLIND SELF
There was a physical argument that
took place between him and coach
carter , he didn’t realized that he
was so rude to his coach at that
time .
UNKNOWN SELF
Neither his coach nor Timo believed
when he is capable of completing the
task(punishment)
One night when his cousin Renny who
was involved in drugs got shot and killed
infront of him then he realized his
actions can have a deep impact on his
future.

He is one of the senior

player of Richmond high
basketball team

Jason lyle didn’t believed in
team work , he believed that
one is responsible for his own
actions.
HIDDEN SELF
Jason’s father was in jail so he was
scared that he might not end up in
jail so he gave everything for
basketball and to upgrade his
grades.
BLIND SELF
Jason didn’t realized that sports is
all about team work and without it
his team cannot win any game.
UNKNOWN SELF
When timo cruz was not able to finish his
task ( punishment) Jason said to the
coach that he will do the remaining
punishment he said that one person
struggles then the whole team struggles
due to his courage other team members
also joined timo to help him.
When the first progress report came out, Coach Carter was
so disappointed in his players that he put a lock on the
gym doors and he made the team meet him in the library
to study and get better grades. The parents did not approve
of what Coach Carter was doing, so they took it to the
school board. Before the school board voted, Coach Carter
stated that he would resign as the coach if they voted the
lockout to be over with before they boys got better grades.
They voted against him, but when he went to resign, his
team was sitting in school desks ready to study.

He was a little shy
and introvert kind of
guy

Junior battle was not
academically well because
when his big brother was
killed everything was hard for
him since then
BLIND SELF
when coach asked him to
attend his classes he neglected
his classes and left the team ,
he didn’t realized that leaving
the team was his mistake.
UNKNOWN SELF
His mother made him realise
his mistake and then he
apologized to the coach and
agreed to caught up in the
class.
 WILLA BATTLE
Willa battle is
junior battle’s
mother.
 OPEN SELF
She questioned coach
carter that how good
grades are necessary in
basketball.
HIDDEN SELF
when junior’s big brother
antone was killed she is
having a hard time since then
and she was scared that like
anton she will loose his other
son too.
BLIND SELF
She didn’t agreed with the
coach and his rules
unconsciously as because
other parents were disagreeing
too.
UNKNOWN SELF
Her unknown self was
discovered when she thought
that coach’s intentions are
pure and so she trusted him
with his son.

He is also one of the

basketball team.

greeting the students
and taunting his
worm showed zero
opponent team
respect , even insulted
members.

Deep down he knew his

coach’s intensions are His attitude completely
pure but he didn’t changed during the movie
showed it.
PRINCIPAL GARRISON

She is the principal

of Richmond high
school .
 OPEN SELF
Principal garrison didn’t
agreed when coach carter
locked the basketball court
and forced them to meet in the
library to focus on their
grades.
HIDDEN SELF
She believed that coach is
taking away basketball ,
the one area where the
boys have some success.
BLIND SELF
She didn’t knew that she was
only thinking of the school
and not about the scholarship
for the basketball team.
UNKNOWN SELF
Teachers should support the students and
their dreams so that they can believe in
themselves and go farther in life, and
maybe even on to college. They should
not be bringing them down, they should
be pushing the students to be their best so
they can have greater opportunities in
life.
the things that Coach Ken Carter did for his team in
the movie really showed that he cared and had a
positive attitude about the students’ education and
them continuing their education after high school,
even if they didn’t have the support they needed from
teachers and parents which is very relevant in today’s
times.
In the last scene of movie the whole team was
invited to the state tournament with st’ francis
school , the number one team in the state. They
lost the match with only 2 points . Coach carter
was so proud of his team , he said that you all
played like champions today and what you
achieved goes way beyond the win-loss column
or what’s going to be written on the front page
of the sports section tomorrow , “you achieved
the even elusive victory within”.
