Front of the Class

The movie “Front of the Class” is all about educating people that all people
have diverse needs and that all of us only crave for acceptance. The movie shows
that when we have the dedication, compassion, and beliefs in ourselves there is
nothing can stop us, even if we have an illness that most people thought can be the
reason to quit and hide.

My favorite part of the movie is when Brad’s mother brought him to a

supposed support system for Brad who has the same illness as him. The support
system Brad’s mother is looking for was not shown during their group discussion
instead, these people are just discouraging each other that no one and not everyone
can accept them and that it is better for them to hide because they are not normal
and couldn’t live normally like everyone does. During this part of the movie, Brad
realized that he doesn’t want to be like any of those people who have lost hope and
faith, those people let their Tourette Syndrome win and Brad doesn’t want his illness
to win over him and specially to achieve his goals and dreams.

Having his courage and dedication to continue as his companion, he was

accepted by their school with the help of his Principal and that lessen Brad’s tics and
that moment made Brad realized that he wanted to become the teacher he never had.
Brad manifested the characteristics of an effective teacher for a fact that Brad has the
characteristic of being compassionate, optimistic, dedicated, and he is also an
openminded person who is willing to accept criticism.

Having the aforementioned characteristics molded Brad into becoming an

effective Teacher, and that made the State of Georgia awarded him as the Teacher of
the year. Brad never let his illness to become a hindrance into becoming an effective
teacher towards his pupils, he was loved and accepted because he is also true to
himself and to everyone else and I know, that is what the man from the State of
Georgia saw on Brad.

As a future educator, I have gained a lot of lessons after watching the movie
“Front of the class” that will serve as my guide into becoming an effective teacher.
The story of teacher Brad made me realized that it is important to embody the
following characteristics when we teach; (1) be passionate in your profession because
doing work you love is energizing and creates a positive feedback loop that fuels
productivity, (2) always work with compassion for a fact that learning increases
students' sense of well-being and improves the learning environment, (3) be
optimistic because when a teacher is optimistic, students feel encouraged and
motivated, (4) always be true to yourself because this will make us trustworthy and
reliable in everything, and lastly, (5) always believe in yourself because only by
believing in ourselves we can achieve greater things and when we believe in
ourselves there will be no hurdles that we cannot surpass.
