Report writing
Definition:-
A report is a form of writing that gives
information about an event, situation or
process to someone who wants it.
Types of reports
O Newspaper reports
O Reports of scientific experiments and
processes
O Official reports
Newspaper reports and general reports

O It covers current events and everyday incidents in


the country and abroad
O It deals with the variety of subjects such as
education, entertainment, commerce and industry,
politics, sports, science and stories of human
interest.
O It consists of a direct presentation of facts relating
to a situation or event. (impersonal and objective)
Typical features of newspaper
reports
1.The verb in the headline/heading is
either in simple present tense or in
past participle form.
e.g.President leaves for SAARC meets
Deogiri fort given a facelift

2. Factual descriptions and narrations in
newspaper reports use a mixture of verbs in
active and passive voice.
E.g. the PM met the members of the visiting UN
committee last evening. The meeting was
arranged in the Parliament House Annexe. It is
believed that immediate plans to fight terrorism
were discussed at the meeting.

ANS. 1. A report is a specific form of writing that is organized around concisely
identifying and examining issues, events, or findings that have happened in a
physical sense, such as events that have occurred within an organization, or
findings from a research investigation.

ANS. 2. What is a basic definition of report? A report is a detailed account of


something based on observation and research. Report is also used to mean to
relay information or to appear at a destination as ordered. The word report has
many other senses as a noun and a verb.

ANS. 3. Reports present adequate information on various aspects of the


business. All the skills and the knowledge of the professionals are
communicated through reports. Reports help the top line in decision making. A
rule and balanced report also helps in problem solving.
