Getting to know each other

Describing your role

Course Book Page: 3

2 truths 1 lie

Who knows this game and how it works?

2 truths 1 lie
1. I will tell you three things about me.

2. Two are true, one is a lie.

3. You must ask me questions to find the lie.

For example, if I say:
“I can play the piano.”

What questions could you ask me to see if this is

true?
1. I have worked as a Contracts Manager.

2. I haven’t worked as a Photographer.

3. I have twelve first cousins.

Take some time to think of your three things.
Then take turns to tell the class.

These need to be things people do not know

about you.
I’m going to give a brief description of my
role.

Listen carefully.
As when I have completed it, I want you to tell
me what information I included.
Hi, my name’s Bronwyn Carr. I’m from International House
Sofia, one of the franchises of 140 language schools in over
50 countries.
I’m responsible for planning and delivering classes in
English. This entails covering a wide range of levels and
specialities. I teach young learners, teenagers, and adults. I
teach general English courses, conversation courses,
reading and writing courses, and of course Business
English Courses.
I’m here today to introduce myself and begin delivering a
Business English Workshop specifically tailored to Premier
Tours needs.
I’m pleased to say that while working at International House
Sofia I have been promoted to the Education Development
Manager in charge of Resources.
I can’t wait to get stuck into this role and further improve the
materials available to the International House teachers.
What information did I include?
First impressions are always right.

Do you agree or disagree?

Pg. 3
Speaker 1: hasn't structured her presentation very well, although her warning that she can
talk too fast might be appreciated.
Speaker 2: She's much more formal, but could be seen as a bit arrogant because she gives
herself lots of credit (although she does want to share her knowledge, which is positive).
Speaker 3:This is very informal (some might see this as good, others will see it as bad)
and he is also quite boastful.
Speakers 2 and 3 show cultural differences also in how they use language and how they
describe themselves.
