YouTube
YouTube is an entertainment/education app where it lets you watch content creators known as
YouTubers that you can like, subscribe, join YouTube channels and dislike. However, you don’t need an
account as you can watch it for free, but YouTube provides it if you want to have an account. YouTube
lets you join a channel by giving special merch or emojis only accessed by the channel. YouTube also
have shorts like TikTok. Someone would use YouTube because they could watch some gaming
walkthroughs or watch something educational, so they get more information. They could use it to get
their favourite YouTubers to get on the recommended page. This app achieves its purpose because it is a
platform to watch some of your favourite YouTubers or for educational purposes and you can search
them up on the search bar at the top.

WHAT ARE THE KEY FEATURES OF

YOUTUBE?
• The purpose of YouTube is to watch videos so you can watch it easily, it is free, and you don’t need an account to watch it. YouTube’s features are used because they are there to watch
videos to watch your favourite YouTubers, educational purposes or you can watch a video on how apps are made like Clash Of Clans.
•      The user requirements for YouTube is that you need to be at least 13 years old to use the app because younger people don’t need to hear bad language so it prevent children saying bad
language but there is a app for them which is the kids version.
•  The other user requirements for YouTube is that you can have an option to have a YouTube account so you can subscribe, like, join YouTube channels, dislike and live video streaming.
•  The features that are presented to the user is the “Up Next” feature on mobile which let the user cancel the video or play the video. What this does is that when they finish the video, they
get the thumbnail of the video and they either press play or either cancel it to find another video.
• Another user-friendly feature is that you can report people if they put mean comments or racist comments because this prevent verbal abuse to the creator or the other person in the
comments if they try to said something mean which mean they are breaking the rules of netiquette.
Another user-friendly feature is that it is readable which you can see the youtuber icon clearly and it is easy to use. The hardware that YouTube depends on is using the camera, microphone,
a green screen for a real-world look and  a monitor. The interface elements that YouTube use is new video players UI buttons that include shortcuts for like, dislike, comments, save to
playlist and share. They can appear in full screen mode on the video player. Another interface element is the status bar being changed to a lighter theme. The integration for the OS system is
that the user can reply to that YouTuber so they can provide their opinions about the video. YouTube can be available on PC, laptop, game console, phone, tv and tablet.

HOW DO ANY OF THESE FEATURES IMPROVE
ON YOUTUBE?
YouTube improves its features by performance like the click-through rate, average view duration, average percentage viewed,
likes, dislikes and viewer surveys so it appears more on the user’s homepage. Another way that they improved their features is
by a more useful studio apps so they can make the presentation better for education or for videos. This is good because they
can find new things and make their videos better in quality and resolution so they are able to fit everything by having a big
screen width. Another way that they improve features in usability is that they allowed more space so that users can see what
the video is about and there are only some videos per row. This is good because it helps people to see the thumbnail without
anything in the way. It also have more space for the channels icons so you can see what YouTuber it is. It also has higher
resolution previews. There is also “add to queue” so you can add it to your playlist or now. This is good and bad because you
can add it to your watch list but it is also a bad thing because it doesn’t go to a playlist but if you exit YouTube, it will remove
the videos in your “add to queue”. YouTube improve their accessibility by using automatic caption for people who are deaf
so they can turn on captions and read it, so they know what the person is saying. This is good because this can be helpful to
people who are deaf so they can listen to it. This is also a bad thing because sometimes the subtitles do not catch up.

Google translate
Google translate is an app where you can translate a language, so you know
what it mean in English. Google Translate is effective because you can learn
how to say it before you go on holiday, so you know what to say. This app
achieved its purpose because it is very reliable, and you can use it if you go to
a non-English country.

WHAT ARE THE KEY FEATURES OF GOOGLE

TRANSLATE?
The key features of Google Translate is that its purpose is to translate the language and see what the app translates in another
language. The user requirements for Google translate is that you need a Google account to use Google Translate. The features The
that are available on Google Translate is a simple interface with readable text. Google translate doesn’t use hardware. Google document
Translate is used by typing or talking the language and the app will translate the language for you either by voice recognition or s
typing it in. This is good because it can recognize your voice so that it know what language it would be. The features of Google
Translate are there because the app can help you to translate a language so if you are in Spain in a restaurant and you don’t know
any food on the menu then you translate one of the food. Google Translate has a pop-up menu with more languages because this
can help translate languages in the world, so you know what the language it is in English.

• Google Translate is on Android, iOS and PC.
HOW DO ANY OF THESE FEATURES IMPROVE
ON GOOGLE TRANSLATE?
Google Translate features in performance has improved by being more accurate with the language and
improvements to model architecture and training. This could be a good feature because they are making
Google Translate better to understand so it can understand slang or more complex words, so it doesn’t cause
any problems or confusions about that word. Google Translate features in presentation has improved by
improving the two most popular languages- Spanish and French. Its features in usability has improved by
being more reliable and is able to be more accurate. This could link to the language being more accurate
because it is trustworthy, and it is accurate giving you that more specific language which is good. Its features
in accessibility has improved by icons that are labelled with text and specific areas where disabled people can
tap. This could be useful for people with disabled needs because they could use it so if they go on holiday,
there would be settings for disabled people so they can click on the areas where they need to click on.
 It is free because everyone can use
GOOGLE TRANSLATE Google Translate just like Google, so
you don’t need to pay it because it is
STRENGTHS AND an everyday tool if you are planning
to go on holiday. 
WEAKNESSES
It is quick because it instantly
translate the word from English into
another language or you can right-
click on the translation you are
looking for and you can click “Quick
Translation” which give the results in
a new tab. This is good as you can
click on this and just go into a new
tab.
It uses a statistical method to form a
database because what it does is that
it uses a method called statistical
machine translation and it works by
starting with English then to the
language that it is being translated
into. This is because when it is
translated, the word in that language
is in the right order. This is good for
other people outside of the UK
because it can translate the language
to them.
It can be lost in translation because there
are some languages around the world that
are not on Google Translate so it try to
learn from its existing translations. This is
bad because for people in Indigenous
tribes, people from other countries
wouldn’t understand them if their language
was already on Google Translate. It does
this by rendering some words wrong.
The quality of translation is dependent
because Google Translate uses machines to
translate those, but languages not widely
used in Google Translate will be more
inaccurate than most used languages like
German or French, but it varies based on
the language pairs that are picked. This is
bad because Google Translate should add
more of the uncommon languages into
their translation app so in the future,
someone could encounter a tribe, or a new
country  and they can translate what they
are saying.
It often produces errors in its translation
because it often got grammatical errors in
the translation either using words or
phrases or slang words. The only reason
why it produces errors is because Google
uses a method which is based on language
pair frequency but weirdly, it doesn’t
consider grammatical rules. This is bad
because if people wanted to translate a
slang word in that language, it would have
errors in the word so they wouldn’t know
if it was wrong or right.
EXAMPLES OF IMPROVING GOOGLE
TRANSLATE
Google Translate could improve by having a correcting system so if you spell the translation wrong, it
instantly tells you that there is a spelling mistake, so you clicked the word, and it comes up with
different options if it is a grammar error or a spelling error with the word you are trying to spell.
Google Translate could improve by understanding slang words because it doesn’t understand slang
words so they will need to upgrade Google Translate to understand slang words with a better engine.
Google Translate could also improve by having its other apps down the bottom so you don’t need to
search them up. 
This could link to current trends in mobile app development because the data in mobile apps like the
5G could be more reliable so it can load quickly. This also link to current trends in mobile app
development because Google Translate could use an interactive AI to do spelling errors. This could
also link to current trends in mobile app development because everyone could do Google Translate on
a foldable device which could allow them to have a larger screen and large space.
