Things we will cover in this whole discussion

● Basic concepts about whip speeches

● Things to do during prep

● Things to do during debate

Basic Concepts about whip speeches

❖ Requires a good debate sense ( A biased

Adj. )

❖ Very much different from DPM/PM.

❖ One with good matters.

❖ Structure depends mostly on debate.

Things to do during prep:

❏ Helping PM/LO for giving a clear and fine

speech.
( contributing in prep time )

❏ Thinking about burden and framing.

❏ Thinking about secondary ideas… or impact or

mechanisms.

❏ Thinking about rebuttals.

❏ Thinking about clashes/ comparatives in debate.

Prep time scripting

❏ Don’t write to much about prime

arguments analysis rather try to write
less but secondary ideas….. (one page)

❏ Possible rebuttals…..

❏ Possible clashes…( one full page )

During debate:

➔ Track the debate, fill up and call out( one rough page )

1. Finding grammatical faults..( Be an adj..)

(a) Context ( problems,urgency,alternative etc.)
(b) Characterization.
(c) Policy’s feasibility.
(d) Argument structure( incentive, structure, mechanism)

Etc Etc Etc

➔ Find rebuttals
➔ Find comparison
➔ Summery
Structuring things:

★ Depends on debate

★ Ideal Structure

1) Clarification ( rebuttals and

rebuilds)
2) Extensions ( New layers).
3) Comparisons
4) Summery.
How to do comparisons:

➢ Clash point analysis.

➢ Case scenario comparison

Clash Points:

➢ What is clash point?

Clashing point of your and their case.
It can be common things of both team.

➢ How to identify?
Find out where their case and your case
clashes……

Such as:
1. Common goal.
2. Common impact.
3. Common stakeholder.
4.Common argument etc.
Case Scenario:

➢ Best Case Scenario:

best version of your case and theirs…

➢ Worst Case Scenario:

worst version of your case and theirs…

➢ How to use it :
best vs best
worse vs worst
Worst vs Best ( hard but more effective)
Summery

❖ Showing U fulfilled burdens.

❖ Showing U fulfilled clashes

❖ Showing the exclusivity.

❖ Again saying their major faults.
