MEDIA AND INFORMATION
LITERACY
• It is linked to access to information, free
expression and education. Media and Information
Literacy, defined as the ability to access, analyze
and create media, is a prerequisite for citizen to
realize their rights to freedom of information and
expression.
MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY

• “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression;


this right includes freedom to hold opinions without
interference and to seek, receive and impart information and
ideas through any media regardless of frontiers”.

MEDIA

• It is the physical objects used to communicate


with, or the mass communication physical objects
such as radio, television, computers, films etc. it
is also refers to any physical object used to
communicate messages
LITERACY

• The ability to identify, understand, interpret, create and


communicate using printed, written materials and other
means associated with varying context. Literacy involves a
continuum of learning, wherein individuals are able to
achieve their goals, develop their knowledge and potential,
and participate fully in their community and wider society.
MEDIA LITERACY

• Media Literacy is a 21st century advent to education. It


is the understanding to access, analyze, evaluate, create,
reflect and act using all forms of communication. It is
an effective and engaging way to employ critical
thinking skills to a wide range of issues.
Some tips for the responsible use of media
and information
1. Ensure personal information safety

• Do not display or give away your personal


information on your social media accounts. When
you are using applications and websites.
2. GET PERMISSION
• When posting videos or pictures of other
people on your social media accounts. Do
nor forget to ask for the owners approval
and of the people who appeared in video or
picture.
3. Think before you click

• when posting or sharing on social media, think


first if the information you are going to post or
share is accurate, helpful, informative, nice, and
kind to others. Avoid posting or sharing
inappropriate, uncomfortable, or rude insights on
your accounts.
4. Keep your password safe

• keep an eye on your account; do not let


others know your password. Update your
password often to avoid your account from
being hacked or used by a poser.
5. Spread positivity

• share positive and uplifting posts to your friends.


As much as possible, avoid negativity and hate in
your account because what you post on social
media becomes a reflection of yourself.
