How to use Interrogative particles ( ‫ام‬ ْ ‫وفا ِال‬
ُ ‫ )ح ُ ُر‬in Arabic.
 ‫هل‬َ & ‫َأ‬
 A positive sentence can be made interrogative by using ‫( أ‬a) or‫ َهْل‬in the
beginning of a sentence. Use ‫ نَ َع ْم‬if your answer is positive or ‫‘ ال‬no’ if
your answer is negative.
 For example,‫انتطا لب‬ َ “You are a student” is made into a question by
‫أ أنتطا ِ ٌل ؟‬
placing ‫ أ‬first, so we get ‫ب‬
ٌ‫نَ َعم أنا طالب‬ (positive)
َ ‫ست ب‬
‫طالِب‬ ُ َ‫ أنا ل‬،‫(ال‬Negative)
‫غَّسالة‬
‫‪.‬هذه َ‬
‫?‪Is this a washing machine‬‬
‫‪.‬هذه ماكينة الخياطة‬ ‫?‪Is this a sewing machine‬‬
‫‪.‬هذه نََّظارة‬
‫?‪Is this a spectacle‬‬
‫هذا باب‬ ‫?‪Is this a fruit basket‬‬
‫‪.‬هذه سلة الفواكه‬
‫‪َ.‬مفْ ُت ْوح ٌ‬ ‫?‪Is this a closed door‬‬
‫?‪Is this a TV set‬‬
‫‪.‬مروحة الطاولة‬
‫هل هؤالء رجال الشرطة؟‬
‫?‪Is this a sewing machine‬‬
‫‪.‬نعم‪ ،‬هؤالء رجال الشرطة‬ ‫‪.‬هذا جهاز التليفزيون‬
‫أهم واقفون على الشارع؟‬
‫‪.‬ال‪ ،‬هم واقفون في الميدان‬ ‫األطفال جالسون في‬ ‫?‪Who is sitting in the school van‬‬
