In Geography, development means an improvement in

living standards Standard of living refers to the level of wealth, comfort,
material goods, and necessities available to a
certain socioeconomic class in a certain geographic area.

 What is development?
Our understanding of development has changed over time, it used to refer
only to wealth but today we think about other aspects of development too:
Economic development is a measure of a
country's wealth, its level of industrialisation
and use of technology

Environmental development an improvement

in the quality of the environment that people
inhabit e.g. pollution, water quality, emissions
etc.
Social development an improvement
in human welfare to meet people’s
needs, e.g. access to jobs, education,
nutrition, health, leisure and safety.
