Wind power
• Wind is moving air.
Sometimes it moves gentle, like a breeze
Sometimes there are hurricanes with
extremely strong winds.
For thousands of years, people have used
wind to push salling boats or fly their kites.
Wind is also used in windmills. The wind blows and it
spins the sails.
These sails move large stones that grind flour.
Modern windmills are called wind turbines
They use wind power to produce electricity.
Electricity is the energy that televisions,
consoles and washing machines need to work
Next time you are playing a video game,
think about the importance of the wind!

What do wind turbines produce?
• We cannot see air, but it is all around us.
• Air does not have a fixed shape.
• Look at the photo. What is the shape of the air inside the balloon?
• Air is a mixture of gases. Do you know any of the gases that make up air?
