Angiography

• Angiography: is a minimally invasive
radiological procedures that uses X-
rays & Iodine containing contrast
material to produce pictures of blood
vessels.
• Carotid Angiography:angiography of
carotid artery
• Vertebral Angiography:angiography of
vertebral artery
Both are commonly called cerebral
angiography.
Anatomy
• In this angiography,a thin plastic tube called catheter is inserted into
artery in the legs and arm through a small inncision in the skin.

• Using X-rays guidance,the catheter is navigated to the area being


examined.

• Once there,contrast material is injected through the tube & images


are captured using X-rays.
Indications
• Aneurysm
• Abnormal blood vessels(vascular
malformations)
• Find a clot that may have caused
a sroke.
• Narrowing of the arteries
• To study blood supply of brain
tumor
Procedures
• Neuro-angiographic suite
• Clean & drape
• Remain awake ,local anesthesia
• Catheter through groin artery
• Under Fluoroscopic guidance,the catheter is taken to the appropriae
artery
• Dye-injection
• Compression at puncture site
