John Dearden Assignment 2 unit 11

Introduction:

In this presentation i have been asked to participate to build and design a network and
computing solution for a ‘friends music shop’. First music has no computer equipment
so in my plan i will need to complete a computer network and a system that will target
the future extension stages and expectations.First music will be selling new and old
music which will allow the users to download the music.

switch Make sure the correct ethernet wires are

connected suitably to the switch

router We will make sure the router is connected

Folder and files We will make sure all the folders and files
have been joint to all the users we shall do
this by config the ip

Software utilities We will make sure the router is

corresponding to the switch and also make
sure the firewall is on and working and
antivirus is connected

Firewall We will make surethe firewall is on for virus

protection

Printer We will make sure the printer is connected

and focus to all 3 computers

All 3 computers are up and running We will make sure all the computers are
connected to the network and we will make
sure folders and files are shared between
 User requirements:
● customers must be able to download music
● the staff must be able to search for music
● the manager has asked for centralised printing
● one member of staff will set up users, and monitor and maintain the store’s computers and network
● the network must be cost effective
● the store needs to have a suite of application software tools to effectively download music and facilitate
management of the music and the music shop
● The network must be secure.

It has been chosen that the following are required for the computer network :
● Three high-spec computers
● operating system and application software.
● shared hardware network resource
● three network users
● configured for the users
Purpose of a computer network

The purpose of a computer network is so customers can download music to the

computer also they will be needing several PCS so staff can browse the
computers for the music they will be downloading and a computer will be needed
for a manager so they are able to print things out they will also be needing to
facilitate the management of the music.
Network structure
My network design:
I have chosen LAN as my network design, As a LAN network all 3 of the computers will be connected to
the switch by an ethernet cable in a star topology. One of the computers will be for the staff and one will
be for downloading music and one computer will be for the mange

● Monitors (£45-£110)
● 8 port switch (£11.00)
● Router (£35.00)
● Printer (£50-£150)
● 3 high spec computer (£600-£800)

This will be my plan will be including a

switch which will will all connect to the
switch which is connected to the modem
and then the computers are linked to the
switch which allows them to connect
properly.3 high spec computers as they
have requested from me.
Alternative designs

In this design the computers are more

apart from each other the ethernet
connection will be connected to the
managers computer so music will be able
to download quicker.
Setup and configuration

Set up configuration and this is where the ip will get set up and the software and
hardware that influence the security posture and will use the information system.
Design justification
This is my design justification for this document which will need to meet the needs of
user requirements by having everything at the cost of being a cheap price. This will
mean the music shop will also have some spare money to spend elsewhere. In this
document i have mentioned that i will need 3 high spec computers and a reliable
router and a decent printer which will be used for the manager in case the manager
wants to print of some confidential information.this will also meet all the purposes of
the hardware requirements and the software availability this will mean it will have no
major impact on the developing network. The alternative design has not been
included as it is costly and not very professional as the main design due to it having
and ethernet cable which will get in the way and become a health and safety hazard.
