TAPEWORMS
Tapeworms are a type of
parasitic flatworm that live in
the digestive tracts of animals,
including humans. They are
long, flat, ribbon-like worms
that can grow to be several
feet in length. There are many
different species of tapeworms,
each with its own unique
characteristics.
Life cycle
The life cycle of a egg
tapeworm typically involves
two hosts; an intermediate
host and a definitive host.
The intermediate host is Life Cycle
usually an animal, while Of
the definitive host is Tapeworms
typically a carnivorous Adult larvae
animal such as a dog or a
human.
The life of a
tapeworm
The tapeworm begins its life
cycle as an egg, which is passed
out of the definitive host's body in
the feces. The egg is then
ingested by the intermediate
host, where it hatches into a
larval form known as an
oncosphere. The oncosphere then
burrows into the tissue of the
intermediate host, where it forms
a cyst.
If the intermediate host is then
eaten by a definitive host, the
cyst is broken open and the
tapeworm larvae are released
into the digestive tract of the
definitive host. The larvae
then attach themselves to the
wall of the digestive tract
using their hook like
mouthparts, and begin to
grow into adult
tapeworms.
