INTRODUCTION
• Zigbee technology is a wireless communication protocol designed for low-power, low-
data-rate applications in the IoT domain.
• ZigBee is the Personal Area Network of task group 4 so it is based on IEEE 802.15.4 and
is created by Zigbee Alliance.
• ZigBee is a technological standard created for controlling and sensing the network.
• Zigbee employs mesh networking for a self-healing architecture, enabling reliable
communication, while offering lower data rates.
FEATURES OF ZIGBEE

• Low Power Consumption

• Low Data Rate (20- 250 kbps)
• Short-Range (75-100 meters)
• Network Join Time (~ 30 msec)
• Support Small and Large Networks
• Low Cost of Products and Cheap Implementation Extremely low-duty cycle.
• 3 frequency bands with 27 channels.
HOW ZIGBEE WORKS

• Network Formation
• Device Communication
• Routing and Mesh Networking
• Data Transmission
• Security
• Application Profiles
• Network Management
DEVICE TYPES

• ZigBee coordinator (ZC)

• ZigBee Router (ZR)

• ZigBee End Device (ZED)

APPLICATIONS
1. Home Automation
2. Industrial Automation
3. Healthcare Monitoring
4. Environmental Monitoring
5. Smart Lighting Systems
6. Asset Tracking and Management
7. Building Automation
8. Wireless Sensor Networks
9. Smart Cities
ADVANTAGES :
• 1. Low power consumption, making it ideal for battery-powered devices.
• 2. Mesh networking provides robust and reliable communication in complex environments.
• 3. Interoperability between Zigbee-certified devices from different manufacturers.
• 4. Cost-effective solution for wireless communication.
• 5. Scalability to accommodate small to large-scale deployments.

DISADVANTAGES :

• 1. Limited data rates compared to some other wireless standards.

• 2. Limited range compared to certain wireless protocols, making it less suitable for certain
applications or large buildings.
• 3. Not as widely adopted as some other IoT protocols, which may result in a smaller range of
compatible devices.
• 4. Security features are not as robust as some other IoT protocols, making it potentially more
vulnerable to hacking and security threats.
CONCLUSION

ZigBee is one of the global standards of communication protocol formulated by the relevant task force.

ZigBee is the newest and provides specifications for devices that have low data rates, consume very low
power and are thus characterized by long battery life.
