INTRODUCTION
Hyperthyroidism is a pathological disorder in which
excess thyroid hormone is synthesised and secreted by
the thyroid gland. It is characterised by normal or high
thyroid radioactive iodine uptake (thyrotoxicosis with
hyperthyroidism or true hyperthyroidism

• Past thyroid surgery
CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
• Fatigue
• Frequent bowel movements
• Goiter (visibly enlarged thyroid gland)
• Hair loss
• Hand tremor
• Heat intolerance
• Increased appetite
• Increased sweating
• Irregular menstrual periods in women
• Nail changes (thickness or flaking)
• Nervousness
• Pounding or racing heart beat (palpitations)
• Restlessness
• Sleep problems
PREVENTION
• Control dietary intake
• Avoid smoking
• Regular check up
• Control of alcohol consumption
