• Untuk mempelajari empat mode alternatif dasar untuk mengumpulkan
data survei
• Untuk memahami kelebihan dan kekurangan masing-masing dari
berbagai mode pengumpulan data
• Untuk memahami faktor-faktor yang dipertimbangkan peneliti ketika
memilih metode survei tertentu

Surveys
• A survey involves interviews with a large number of respondents using
a predesigned questionnaire.
• Surveys are able to help us to understand what people say or say they
think.
• They’re also able to help us to collect basic factual data about
respondents (though much of it is more subjective than we tend to
admit.)
• Surveys tend to provide us with a quantitative assessment.

• Four basic survey methods:
1. Person-administered surveys
2. Computer-assisted surveys
3. Self-administered surveys
4. Mixed-mode (hybrid) surveys

Advantages of Surveys
• Standardization
• Ease of administration
• Ability to tap the “unseen”
• Suitability to tabulation and statistical analysis
• Sensitivity to subgroup differences

Disadvantages of Surveys
• Surveys require assumptions that can result in bias.
• Surveys don’t always yield truthful results.
• Surveys are only as good as the sample they’re drawing from.

Choice of Survey Method
• In selecting a data collection mode, the researcher balances quality
against the following:
• Time available for data collection
• Money available for data collection
• Type of respondent interaction required (such as sampling a
product, viewing an ad, etc.)
• Incidence rate: screen by online or telephone
• Cultural/infrastructure considerations: Scandinavian countries
dislike strangers in homes. Canada is more open. In Some places,
<10% have phones.

• Properties: specific features or characteristics of an object that can be
used to distinguish it from another object
• Objective properties are physically verifiable.
• Subjective properties are mental constructs.
• Objective properties are physically verifiable characteristics such as
age, gender, or number of bottles purchased.
• Subjective properties cannot be directly observed because they are
mental constructs such as a person’s attitudes, opinions, or intentions.
• For subjective properties, researchers must translate mental constructs
onto an intensity continuum.

• Scale development is designing questions and
response formats to measure the subjective
properties of an object.

Perceived usefulness
• Using robots as a traffic would enhance traffic effectiveness
• Using robots as a traffic would improve my performance in driving
• Using robots as a traffic would reduce traffic accidents
• I would find robot traffics useful for pedestrians
