INTRODUCTION:
 Humans with the aid of their eyes, noses, and ears are
constantly seeing, smelling and hearing things from a
distance a they move through an environment.
 Thus, humans are naturally designed to be remote
senors. In order to study large areas of the Earth’s
surface geographers use devices known as remote
sensors.
WHAT IS REMOTE SENSING ?
 Remote sensing is a type of geospatial technology that
samples emitted and reflected electromagnetic (EM)
radiation from the Earth’s terrestrial, atmospheric, and
aquatic ecosystems in order to detect and monitor the
physical characteristics of an area without making
physical contact.
TYPES OF RS ?
 There exist two main types of remote sensing classified
according to the source of signal they use to explore the
object, active vs. passive. Active remote sensing
instruments operate with their own source of emission or
light, while passive ones rely on the reflected one.
WHY RS IS IMPORTANT ?
 Remote sensing makes it possible to collect data on
dangerous or inaccessible area.
 RS provides real time updates, and does not require
active human assistance ( you can collect data at any
time, at any frequency, as long as the equipement allows
it).
 RS can detect things that are not normally present in the
visible spectrum like temperature ,or by detecting
landforms underneath the surface of the ground or ocean.
 RS can scan large areas of land by satellite much more
quickly than a ground survey ever cloud.
ADVANTEGES AND DISADVENTAGES ?
Advantages:
-Provides data of large area
-Easy and rapid collection of data
-Rapid production of maps for interpretation

Disadventages:
-objects can be miscassified or confused
-data from multiple sources may create confusion
-the interpretation of imagery requires a certain skill level
APPLICATIONS?
CONCLUSION:
Remote sensing proves itself as a boom in an economic
growth all over the world. Various applications in the
field of agriculture, satellites, radars, geology, search and
operations help in development of economies around the
world .
Hence it promises a great future.
