ranging from fast food on the West Coast (In-N-Out Burger) to
fine dining in New York (The Spotted Pig).
■ Deep-Dish Pizza .Pizza in Chicago looks and tastes different.
The dish is deep, as the name suggests, meaning the crust rises
high and allows for an artery-choking volume of cheese and
tomato sauce.
mmmm…,delicious!!

■ Apple Pie .The saying is "American as apple pie" for a reason:

this sweet treat is a national institution. Forget anybody who
will try to tell you pecan or key lime is better, because they are
lying. The simple combination of sugar, buttery pastry and tart
sliced apples produces a dessert so extraordinary people have
devoted their entire lives to perfecting it.
■ Tacos Los Angeles is a city with a taqueria on every street
corner, basically. With so many Spanish-speakers it's possible
to find anything from greasy nachos on Venice Beach to
exquisite Michoacan-style goat stews

■ Thanksgiving is a celebration that originates from a tradition to give thanks for a good
harvest. It is said to have its origins in 1621 when the first colonists in New England
and Native Americans came together to enjoy a large feast at the end of the first
harvest.A traditional Thanksgiving dinner includes a roast turkey, cranberry sauce,
sweet potatoes, and other foods of the season that are served for a huge dinner. At the
start of the dinner, people take time to share with everyone what they are grateful for
that year. When the turkey is carved, people take out the wishbone and break it to see
whose wish will be granted. They do it by pulling on each side of the bone: whoever
gets the bigger part wins.
■ Veterans Day honors all veterans of the United States armed forces. A traditional
observation is a moment of silence at 11:00 am remembering those killed in war.
(Commemorates the 1918 armistice, which began at "the eleventh hour of the eleventh
day of the eleventh month.")
■ Independence Day is the national holiday of the United States, and possibly one of the
most important holidays of the year. The celebration commemorates the fact that back in
1776, the members of the Second Continental Congress declared their independence from
the British Crown. Nowadays, this day is a celebration of all-things-American, from hot
dogs and country music to exercising the freedom to choose and express yourself.
■ American football, referred to as football in the United States and Canada and also known
as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field
with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team with possession of the oval-shaped
football, attempts to advance down the field by running with the ball or passing it, while
the defense, the team without possession of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and
to take control of the ball for themselves

■ The United States of America has been a democracy for more than 200 years. Issues
that were important in its early years remain so today: big government versus small
governemnt, individual rights versus group rights, free markets versus controlate trade,
and cinnection with the world versus focusing on interal affairs. The U.S. tries to be a
fair and just society, and much of the time it succeeds. Through compromise and
change, the country has grown, prospered, and made progress toward its ideals. Most
people who came to the British colonies in the 1600s were English. Others came from
The Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, France, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. By 1970,
there were 2.5 milion people. The ideas of libertism and democracy are the basis of
the U.S. political system. As the colonists built their new society, they believed more
strongly in these ideas. Britan's 13 colonies grew in population and economic strenght
during 1700s. Altrough ruled by a distant governemnt, the colonists governed many
local affairs.
