Introduction

Background of 2D transient heat transfer:

 A method used to analyze the heat transfer in a
2D plate.
 = α2Tx2+2Ty2
Methodology

 Discretization of the domain

 Definition of the element temperature distribution
 Assembly of the heat equation:
 Solution of the heat equation using explicit method
 Application of boundary conditions
 Application of Copper / water
 Visualization of results
Results: Control

 During this 500 iterations, the simulation

shows how the boundary condition affect the
temperature distribution across the plate.
 Bottom side only spread heat outwards by
only 3 units
 Top side lowering the initial plate’s
temperature to about 10oC and lower, but that
only by 2 units
Copper

 The distribution of temperature across the

plate would be larger, whether its cold or hot
temperature.
 Due to copper’s high thermal diffusivity
which enabled the copper to transfer heat
faster.
Water

 Temperature distribution of the plate with water covering its surface happened very slowly as it takes
around 991.5 seconds
 Temperature distribution of the plate with water covering its surface happened very slowly as it takes
around 991.5 seconds
Conclusion

 Different heat sinks have different thermal conductivity values, which can affect the
rate at which heat is dissipated.
 Copper heat sink was found to dissipate heat faster than water heat sink.
 This research can help in the design of thermal systems by showing the importance
of efficient heat dissipation and the impact of different heat sinks on the rate of heat
dissipation.
